My wife and I went to Michael as newlyweds experiencing a few growing pains early in our relationship as a way to learn about each other and how to communicate effectively. Micheal was able to identify quickly that we have different needs and speak different languages due to our personality types being somewhat different. He gave us excellent tools to use to better communicate, understand and accept one another. He was able to help us understand and listen to each other better than we are able to listen to each other directly at times. I have taken part in a great deal of counseling for other issues myself prior to this, so I would say I have decent experience to evaluate a therapist or counselor, and Michael is top tier. He was excellent with paperwork to make it easier to be reimbursed from your health insurance, but his advice and counseling is worth it even if you are paying out of pocket. I had a pretty lame/not helpful experience with another therapist before I met Dr. Mongno. I wasted a lot of money doing paperwork during our time and also going through my entire family history and background to even get close to the reason why I was there... Luckily even after that poor experience I still was eager to find someone else to talk to, so I took another chance with Dr. Mongno. THANK GOODNESS. Dr. Mongno literally sits you down and says, ok let's talk what's on your mind. He get's to the heart of it, listens, validates, gives you real perspective. I tend to over analyze, think worst case scenario, etc. and he really offers a counter to that, that makes sense and puts you on a positive track. Everytime I've left one of our sessions, I feel like a weight has been lifted, that I have someone rooting for me, that I'm not crazy but I am now armed with a healthier perspective. He also isn't set on his idea of a solution, he helps you get to one that you're comfortable with. Life is not always black and white, we need to open our minds and be flexible with the way we think...and Dr. Mongno offers the help to do that...which truly helps you grow! He is a warm man who makes you feel very comfortable. The only thing I would add here is that he's a little expensive...but can you really put a price on a healthy, happy mind? Something to note- he is located in an apartment building instead of a commerical building. It's totally fine and not weird at all, the setting is very professional and comfortable, but as a woman going for my first time I was a little hesitant. The Best!!! Seriously. I find it funny that people will invest so much money in personal trainer's, higher education etc. but they don't seem to think that therapy is something you do unless you have some big issues like a divorce or a death in the family. I have to say that the investment I have put in coming to see Dr. Mongno with my wife has sooo been worth it. Learning to understand your partner and how to relate and communicate with them over the long term is not something that any of us are born with. With Dr. Mongo's help my wife and I have learned how to interact with each other more successfully. When we have a conflict, instead of taking a great deal of time to resolve, we now can either deal with it quickly or just follow up later. Not only has it be helpful with my wife, it's also been an invaluable help in my business career. Sometimes personal blindspots can interfere in closing a deal or effectively dealing with a conflict situation with a client. I can honestly say that what I have learned with Dr. M has helped improve my success with our clients. It is a blessing to have Dr. Mike Mongno as my therapist. I was in agony and went to see him for couple therapy hoping to change my husband's emotionally abusive attitudes. Dr. Mongno is a fantastic therapist and, more than that, a blessing to us. When my wife and I first met him, we were going on 6 years together (not yet married) and had broken off an engagement at one point in our relationship. We loved each other very much, felt connected at the deepest levels, yet struggled with constant bickering, insecurity, and emotional flare-ups. Our inability to maintain consistent peace was exhausting and taking its toll on us. We continually revisited the same issues over and over and didn't know how to get out of this loop and move forward. We finally took action to seek couples therapy. I found Dr. Mongno online, called on a Monday morning at 8 and explained we needed to see him that day and he made time for us that evening. That one call changed our life. Today, we are married, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary last week, and we have a 2 month old baby boy. Deciding to see Dr. Mongno was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When I first started working with him, about five months ago, I was unhappy in my job, feeling pretty hopeless, and relying very heavily on external things for happiness. I was also struggling to get over a very difficult heartbreak which had been weighing on me for several years. Now, five months later, I have a much clearer sense of who I am and what makes me happy. I called Michael after suffering several traumas close together and developing intense anxiety. Unable to leave the house without experiencing severe panic attacks, our first sessions were over the phone. Even over the phone, his compassion for others shone through and he gave me a safe place in which to fall apart, and in which I could begin to heal. It's been 1.5 years and the strides I have made are, in many ways, a testament to Michael's guidance. Michael pushed me to work through the things that were causing my panic and used a variety of exercises to help me get back on my feet. While my GP strongly suggested medication, Michael's approach helped me understand the nature of my panic, helped me see that what I'd been through was real and substantive, and he helped me understand not just that I would get through it, but how to do so without medicating. With his help, I have become a better partner, better boss (I own my own business), a happier, stronger, more accepting, and more personally fulfilled person.
