For my entrée, I had aumônier mousse foie gras, which was a very light fried coating covering some warmed whipped foie gras with spinach and figs). The plat was a St. Pierre fish with gratin dauphinois - the fish was mild but the creamy sauce (served on the side) helped to add flavor. For dessert, I took the assiette fromage (Camembert, Comté, chèvre), and was pleasantly surprised to also get beurre demi-sel breton as well as some bread to spread it on. Especially good was the goat cheese, though I don't remember which kind. The service was friendly, the wine light and welcomed, this is a good address if you are in Rennes - romantic but also appropriate for a casual dinner for one.

The Formule menu was varied and gave options between fish, chicken and beef, it also included desert. My salad (with chicken chitlin's) was OK, but the main course (beef) was out of this world good. The meat was seared perfectly, the sauce was amazing the side veggies had a hint of magic to make them taste fantastic. I wish I could go back and eat there again!!!

Went for Dinner Food…read more- 5/5. They truly showcase the quality of local Normandy products in an excellent farm-to-table concept. Bread had an amazing chew and the butter was rich and creamy. The bisque was clear broth, and the lack of cream made it easier to taste the natural sweetness of shrimp. Arugula gave it a peppery kick and the fried onions added crunch. We tried both styles of their specialty, the salt marsh lamb, and it was phenomenal. Lamb chops were grilled just slightly to create a sear, resulting in a perfect rare doneness. This allowed us to taste the unique texture of the lamb, which was very tender, being easy to cut with just your teeth. It had a very rich lamb flavor with no gaminess. While the lamb chops focused on the natural flavor of the lamb, the confit showed the culinary fineness of the restaurant. Confit was fork tender, aromatic with thyme, and the jus served as a sauce that reinforced the confit's flavor. Their vegetables were fantastic bringing out the natural flavors of each with excellent texture. Carrots were my favorite as they were roasted perfectly, creating a soft bite and emphasizing their natural sweetness. Potato mille feuille had a soft crunch, creamy interior, and the layers made for a fun texture. You could really taste the earthy flavors of the potato, which was even better when soaked with the confit jus. The cheeses were very strong with a sharp flavor. I could tell that they were of good quality, but I personally prefer milder cheeses. The farmhouse ice cream was absolutely amazing being rich, but not overpoweringly sweet. It was semi-hard, being able to hold its own shape, which resulted in a dense texture that melts in your mouth. It was a perfect pairing with the profiterole, which added a crunchy texture. Service - 4/5. Courteous and friendly service. They spoke fluent English, were readily available and the speed of service was fitting for the French dining culture. I made reservations via email and they provided a code to get past the gate. The code also provided a discount for the gate fees. Value - 5/5. Being a huge tourist destination, there are many touristy options in the area. Many of them state they offer the local specialty, agneau de pre-sale, but only have one option on their menu. La Ferme Saint-Michel is the only location I saw that has more than just a confit, offering the lamb chops that most tourists think of when it comes to lamb. They have a 45€ prix fixe of appetizer, entree, and dessert that includes the lamb confit but the lamb chops are a la carte, priced between 32-42€. Everything was sourced locally, tasted amazing, and the portions were great. An absolute must-visit restaurant to experience the local cuisine of Mont Saint-Michel. Parking - Private Lot (Free)

Dinner in Mont Saint-Michel, France…read more.. We tried to dine at La Ferme Saint-Michel on the evening that we arrived, but we didn't have a reservation. My assignment from my friends was to get a reservation for 7:30pm for a party of 4 for the next day. I emailed the restaurant, then booked online. Everything was in French, so I guessed at how to answer the usual questions: How many in the party, time, and date requested. We parked for free in the gravel lot and walked in to a busy environment. Our table was in a connecting room where it seemed brighter and calmer. I chose the set meal for 45€. My starter was the duck salad which was nice and refreshing. The main entrée was the Salt Marsh Lamb Shoulder. It seemed like a patty made from shredded meat. Strange, but tender and moist! The dessert was Pont D'Orson. The cookie between the baked apple and scoop of ice cream was like the bridge between Mont Saint-Michel and the mainland. This restaurant was large and on the noisy side. It was an interesting foodie experience!

We were fortunate to be the first to arrive for our reservation in this modest sized but comfortable dining room. The menu was brief but filled with delicious and unusual dishes. We started with an incredible appetizer which had a butternut squash puree with hazelnuts, a slow poached egg and a creamy sauce. It sounds strange but the taste was exquisite. Our other starter was a most interesting sandwich styled dish with mild beets and smoked herring pieces in a light horseradish cream on a cromesquis tartiflette. Our special main course was a scallop dish. They were so sweet, fresh and tender. It was served with a vegetable resembling mashed potatoes but tasted like a mild celery root flavor. The other main course had three types of local filleted fish served with a creamy sauerkraut. A culinary delight! For desert there was a special cheesecake with a fig topping that maybe had a slight berry flavor as well. The cheese was creamy and light. Overall the meal was superb. Service was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Apparently the menu changes monthly. We only wish we would be back in town next month.

I came back two nights in a row for the tartare. It was excellent! Hand-cut so not minced, very very good! Spring rolls and poached egg with caramelized onions were very good too as starters. Not posting food pictures but a list of their local suppliers posted on the wall, which I think is a great idea Staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home.

On our trip to the Normandy region of France we got in pretty late to the City of Angers and after finishing up settling in we went out on the hunt for something to eat. Lucky for us after a relatively short walk, we came across Matt Murphy's Irish Pub. I can't say how happy I was to see a pub style establishment that was open as it was pretty late. The food, beer, service was excellent and the owner behind the bar was extremely friendly and helpful as well. They appreciated my speaking and ordering in French; however, they were very cool and spoke to us in English as well with none of the stereotype attitudes we have all heard about. We kept it simple and had a cheeseburger, fries and the fish and chips. Overall the menu has a little for everyone with all the typical items you would expect to see at a pub. Comfort food for the perfect end to a perfect day. I mean we are in France!! C'est magnifique! So if you find yourself If you find yourself visiting Angers and want a laid back atmosphere to let your hair down, have a few pints of beer, a little food and recount the days activities then Matt Murphy's fits the bill. You can't miss it as it is on the main drag in the center of the City! Enjoy and Bonjour!
