This bronze statue of Sacajawea holding her son is located near Chiming Fountain. It was unveiled in 1905 and placed at its current location in 1906.
Its inscription reads, "Erected by the women of the United States in memory of the only woman in the Lewis and Clark expedition, and in honor of the pioneer mother of Oregon."
A lovely statue for someone worth remembering, in my opinion. Picturesque grounds surrounding it. read more
This is a nice statue on top of a stone, located in the turn around entering Washington Park from downtown. Close to the path heading up to the playground and the Lewis & Clark Monument. There are also several picnic tables in the area.
The statue itself is named Sacajawea and Jean-Baptiste. I laughed when I saw the name of the artist... Alice Cooper. Though this one is a women sculptor.
Fun Fact: it was made for the Lewis and Clark exposition with many famous women including Susan B Anthony in attendance. read more
A nicely inspirational, dignified rendering of an overlooked heroic woman.
