It was a multi course meal and everything's good from starter soup to dessert. Nice intimate atmosphere, courteous service. They will make eggs to order but you'll have to ask as it doesn't seem to be something they promote.

What a terrible experience :(…read more We had been here before for a wine tasting and lunch and we had some family in town and decided to book again. We booked for 4 people and then when they emailed us back confirmation we saw that children were not allowed. So we called to change the booking from 4 people to 2 people so that myself and my wife could take our son to the nearby park. They refused to change it even though it had only been 30 minutes since we made the booking. They spent 10 minutes telling us they could not change the booking and instead offering to have us pay full price for our child to come. My wife was on the phone with them for 10 minutes and then I tried to talk to them and lost my temper due to the poor service. I am sorry I lost my temper. The hostess was quite dismissive and unhelpful. We were going to bring 5 people to your restaurant for lunch and just needed to change from 4 people to 2 people for the wine tasting after since you don't allow kids (which you only told us after we paid and booked). There are far friendlier and better places in the Douro river valley that do a better job. We will never come to this restaurant and winery again. Ben

English a bit off but I appreciate that he is really trying. A lot better than my Portuguese. The fish steak was so so. It had good flavoring but I really wanted a more quality fish. I like that I was able to add a salad. I had a delicious coffee and pineapple soda which the waiter thought it was a sparkling drink as a translation. Somewhat similar but not quite the same. Coffee was very on-point and Porto Wine cake had a homey feel and was satisfyingly tasteful. I declined the bread since there is bread everywhere and I don't want too many carbohydrates. It probably cost extra. I tried to confirm with the waiter but I don't think he understood this nuance. He was also serving so many people with only one other person and this person was naturally better at serving more people at once than the other person but they both seemed very kind. On my way back to the hotel, I noticed a Quinta Da Foz and I wonder if these places are connected. Cais Da Foz did offer wine as an option.

Food-wise you can order a tasting menu if several courses with optional wine pairings or do what we did and select from the ala-carte menu. We've learned with the big portion sizes here in Portugal to cut back a bit so we ordered two starters (burratta with tomatoes and the scarlet shrimp with rice). The burratta was a standout with creamy sweet cheese nestled in a tomato confit. The shrimp was interesting-it was almost like a mini lobster and the server removed the head at the table for me. We decided to share a main course-the veal tenderloin which was good but not nearly as tender as one might expect. In between there were little small bites from the chef and we ended with a luscious chocolate dessert. The white glove service was a swarm of activity instantly refilling glasses, clearing plates and changing silverware-it was a little much for me as our table was right at the crossroads of the activity. Wine list is huge as you'd expect with everything from wines by the glass for €10-17 to bottles in the hundreds and even thousands of euros. I saw one that was €6 thousand on the list. As is common in this kind of place, prices were steep and our dinner with 2 drinks, 2 glasses of wine, 2 starters, 1 main and 1 dessert was around €150. Bottom line a lovely place with great service and food and high
