During our recent trip to Spain, Gayle and I spent 3 very pleasant days in the Island of Menorca in the Mediterranean Sea. We were driving around one day and went up to Fornells to visit this pretty seaside village. One of the culinary specialties here is Lobster Stew, which was accented within the harbor by traditional Menorcan fishing craft (Llauts).
As Gayle and I were walking hand-in-hand along the water, we picked out Sa Xerxa for Lunch and to try the Lobster Stew. This was a splurge as this dish goes for $60+ each in various establishments (we checked). But when you're on a wonderful SKI (Spending Kid's Inheritance) trip and we may never pass this way again, why not?
Sa Xerxa has both street- and water-side entrances, with attractive, comfortable, and welcoming indoor and outdoor seating. Professional wait staff were multilingual (there was also a French group next to us), attentive, and knowledgeable.
The Lobster Stew was very tasty and of course messy. It took awhile to learn the lobster cracking drill, with implements and hands at the ready. Eating this stew was half the fun as various lobster scraps hit the waiting bowl.
We added a full bottle of wine to go with our meal and extra bread to soak up residual sauce was imperative. So was coffee (Expresso for me, Cafe con Leche for Gayle) to add a fine coda to our most satisfying culinary experience. read more
