This subway station is a living statement of Berlin's history. Founded as "Danziger Strasse"in the…read more1900's, it was renamed to "Dimitroff Strasse" after a Bulgarian Military general during the Socialist times. It eventually became "Eberswalder Strasse", referencing a nearby street, after the wall came down. Another fun fact is that this underground station is actually above the ground - parts of the subway line U2 run overground in the middle of Schönhauser Allee. This part of the line was finished in the 1910s and is running ever since. Today, the intersection Schönhauser Allee/Pappelallee/Danziger Straße/Kastanienallee is one of the busiest intersections of Prenzlauer Berg. It's a short walk to Mauerpark, Kulturbrauerei, lots of restaurants, boutique shops, and you'll get tram connection to Mitte, Pankow, or Friedrichshain. Oh, and East Berlins most famous Currywurst is located right across the station - Konnopke's.

It's certainly one of the smaller stations, but I love that there's restaurants directly outside including smaller food stalls and a Kaisers supermarket. Makes getting around Berlin a cinch, even if you think you have no idea what you're doing!

Wittenbergplatz is of the popular U-Bahn stations in Berlin, it's mainly because where it located,…read morereally nice location. KaDeWe, Idee, Saturn (the biggest one) and so on are all round. And the station itself has also really nice architecture, it's a good place to make pictures. Inside the station, has coupe food stands (imbiss) around, when you are in hurry and hungry, you could always pick up some food here before you run into the train. This is also a cross station that you can change the line U1, U2 and U3. There are also bus stations around, that made it really convenient. But one thing has to mention, the timing of the trains between different line are really short, if you have to change here, then better hurry yourself a bit, otherwise you will miss it for sure. The station is not really big, but sure has it own history and uniqueness. It's also take people to one of the busier and nicer streets in Berlin. I like this station a lot. I am sure everyone who lives in Berlin has been to this station one way and others. If you are in Berlin for a short visit, don't miss this place.
