Since we had a lot planned during our wine trip in "Die Pfalz" we were looking for dinner places…read morerather late which cancelled most of our dinner options in Deidesheim already. Before we gave up we called the "Deidesheimer Stuben" to ask whether they would still be able to cook rumpsteak for us since we were told it is a delicacy in the Pfalz just a few hours earlier. Everything worked out and we went to this restaurant. When you walk in it has that nice old and "proper German" feel to it as all of the places we visited in this area. :-) Let's get to the main part - the food. Everything we tried was FANTASTIC! Whether it was the potato soup or the "Schnitzel with Spargel" (Schnitzel with Asparagus), it was all great food. I have to highlight my two favorites of that dinner. We weren't sure what to expect from the "Vorspeisevariationen" platter but we were blown away by the look and taste of this menu item. BRILLANT! And just when you thought it could not be any better, we received the Rumpsteak. Mine was cooked to perfection with delicious sauteed onions and herbal butter on top. As a side I had "Bratkartoffeln" which were very good as well. Food that good with the kind of (perfect) service we were exposed to makes me want to go there every night... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :-)

Caupona is a great place for beers or tarte flambe. They are even open around 7am for breakfast. Very cool, rustic, dungeon feel the further you go back in the restaurant. Nice stop for lunch [Strasbourg, France]…read more We stopped by the restaurant for lunch. They had both indoor and outdoor dining available. The rustic wooden tables gave the place a unique look. Menus were accessible by QR code. Prices were decent, of course, a little higher due to the euro|dollar exchange rate. We ordered a couple of burgers. Smash Burger for my brother and Burger Fermier (Bacon Burger) for me. Both came with fries. The burger was a bit messy to eat, bun did not hold well but it was still good and tasty. Bacon was not like our bacon in the U.S. Service was good. Our waiter checked on us every so often but could not find him when it came time to pay. Atmosphere had a medieval feel. A little dark inside. Restrooms had dungeon type doors and it was dark. I guess that's how it was supposed to be designed. Overall good experience. Caupona means "tavern" in Latin. The bar was cleverly designed to match the theme of the restaurant. Review #4071

The hotel and restaurant is located by the river with beautiful willow trees. It's such a picturesque location. Now, on to the food. We did the seasonal tasting menu. Every dish was beautifully displayed. Not only that, there was balance in each dish. Each ingredient was there for a purpose to enhance the main ingredient. My favorite dish that blew me away was the langoustine on mashed beetroot and creamy potatoes. I would've thought the earthiness of the beet would drown out the delicate flavors of the langoustine. It definitely did not. The beet was actually slightly sweet, which complemented the langoustine. Definitely come for the food and stay for the views.
