Having said this, we still end up at Ray's once a week to pick up ingredients that we need for dinner that night when we don't feel like driving further, and standing in line a LOT longer, just to pick up a few things. Note, too, that while the produce department is small, the veggies and fruit are always very fresh and excellent! Also, Ray's carries quart sizes of my favorite strawberry and chocolate milk, and has the best price in the area on organic regular milk. Plus, the location is right off the freeway and there's always ample parking and plenty of carts right outside. But what I LOVE MOST ABOUT RAY'S is that this store is strictly adhering to the "don't-come-inside-unless-you-have-a-mask-on rule," which was mandated by our Oregon governor on July 1. If you won't wear a mask (yes, I know there are people who have health issues wearing one, but frankly, I haven't met any of those peope yet), have someone else do your shopping for you. One of the managers told my husband that no one has gotten sick at her store, and she's not about to let that happen now. THANK YOU RAY'S FOR HELPING TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE. We love you! : )

I made the (apparently GRAVE) error of letting myself into the liquor department, as I had been EXPLICITLY instructed to do by other employees, and had done countless times in the past. This employee yelled at me to stop, so I listened, immediately stopped and apologized. After having listened to this woman and sincerely apologized, this individual continued to berate me and insult my intelligence. At that point, I calmly and apologetically tried to explain that I had been instructed to do what I did by other employees at Ray's, and that I would have never done what I did otherwise. This woman accused me of lying and threatened to kick me out of the store for "arguing". As the surveillance video will show, I remained calm and simply tried to explain my behavior, and felt it was important to let her know about the inconsistencies in adherence to the policy by associates. Especially when associates are INSTRUCTING customers to do something that is apparently very serious. This associated was extremely unprofessional, hostile and emotionally disregulated. The thought of treating a calm, compliant and apologetic customer like that sickens me. What she did was wrong and undignified and unacceptable. I genuinely believe this person should be terminated before she mistreats more customers and turns away more business!

She touches it with her hands to feel if it was warm and said yeah there good and asked me if I wanted one. I said yeah the one you didn't touch. The taquito was cold and I left disgusted. Not sure how it's not common sense to not touch someone else's food with your hands you were just coughing in because you were sick. Then also have no common sense to say it was cooking for an hour and you weren't sure if it was done. Since when does a chicken taquito take 1 hour take make and still be cold. Absolutely retarded.

Last Thanksgiving my husband and I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 15 people. I ordered the best…read moreorganic free-range turkey that Natural Grocer sells. I think I was the first person to place my order that year. I ordered a 16 pound turkey. I intended to cook it in my Oster Roaster, which yields a very moist, almost rotisserie - style result. I was one of the first people to get to Natural Grocers to pick up my turkey. When I got there the person bringing the turkeys out from the back brought out a huge 22+ pound turkey and said this was all she had left. I protested that I had reserved a 16 pound bird and that I didn't need a 22 pound turkey. She looked at me in a very un-compassionate way and said, "This is all we've got. Take it or leave it." I took it because I had to feed 15 people on Thanksgiving and they wanted turkey and dressing!!! My husband and I brined it in the 24 hours before Thanksgiving. It's a good thing that we did because a 22 pound turkey was far too large for our Oster Roaster. The lid would not close!!! OMGosh. Michael and I just looked at each other in horror. We knew all the sides that we had planned to prepare and cook partly in our oven while the turkey was roasting in the Oster. We put it in the oven to roast and within an hour the skin had turned dark black. Michael asked, "What are we going to do?" I said "Cook the dang bird. Then we'll take the skin off and pray that it is moist underneath." In the meantime we got to work in the kitchen on all the sides. Now bear in mind, an Oster Roaster cooks a perfectly tender, moist turkey in far less time than roasting it in a convection oven. We had no idea if that turkey was going to be done by the time our guests started arriving. We just persevered. What else could we do? I will admit that we considered serving them steaks, which we would've had to defrost but we decided that somehow we would pull a rabbit out of the hat. In this case, an edible turkey. When our probe timer told us the internal temperature was where it needed to be, we removed our totally black turkey from the oven. Michael said to me, "I'll handle this. You finish the sides." I gave him a huge platter, at his request, and carving knives and -- with immense relief -- continued to work on everything else, all of which were completed right on time. Our guests began to arrive and I plyed them with good wine, which made them very happy. I said nothing about what we had gone through that day and, in a few minutes, Michael walked in from the outer kitchen with the huge turkey platter arranged perfectly. My brilliant husband had removed all the skin and arranged the white meat on 3/4 of the platter and the dark meat on the remaining 1/4 just like a caterer. It was PERFECT!!! I told the guests to help themselves and I went to my room, shut the door, and collapsed. I didn't know it but Michael did the same thing. We had been under so much stress that neither of us could eat a single bite. One of our guests was Matt Sheehan, a gifted local chiropractor (Family Chiropractic). He came to my room and worked on me for about 30 minutes and I was restored. (Did I mention he is gifted?) When I came out everyone was raving about the food. Michael and I were both very relieved about that but the stress we had been under because of the turkey was awful. We made our minds up right then that we would never buy another turkey from Natural Grocers ever again. If you can't trust them to honor the advance reservation that you make for a turkey for such an important day ... well, you can't trust them at all. This year I bought a beautiful fresh Mary's organic turkey for $2.99 per pound at ShopNCart in Ashland with no stress at all, I am very pleased to report. A friend of ours is going to smoke it for us and, believe me, he is a world class smoker. When one door closes, another opens!!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
