    I'm usually favorably impressed by the food options at USF. Perhaps that's because back in 1992 I…read morehad a UF dining plan and had way too many vegetarian meals consisting of oversteamed cabbage. 20 years later, shut up and get the hell off my lawn, you can actually find good food on a college campus. Today's lunch was a vegan "chicken" salad pita and tofu "chicken" fingers with maple dijon dipping sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite; they're both tasty, but I think I'm going to pick the pita. I like the chewiness of the "chicken" pieces and the soft crunch of the celery; by contrast, the tofu fingers are drier and tougher. There's also vegan tuna salad subs, "macrobiotic" entrees (memo from the 1980s: I do not think it means what you think it means), and more traditional choices made with actual meat. At the back of the store, you can get barbecue, including roasted chicken and macaroni and cheese. I haven't had anything from that side of the store yet, but I'll report back on the mac and cheese when I get the chance. [It's hard to know how to split things up. USF calls three named locations (POD (Provisions On Demand (got enough parentheses yet?)) Market, Smokehouse BBQ to Go, and Starbucks) one name, "Around the Horn". For me, the distinction is that you pay for Starbucks at Starbucks and they take the Starbucks card as payment, but you pay for Smokehouse BBQ and POD Market at the same register. On the other hand, the Smokehouse BBQ is only open 11am-9pm, and the rest of POD Market is open until 1am.] Note: this is on the USF campus, and it won't be worth your trouble to buy a visitor parking pass just to eat here, but if you insist, you might want to look for metered spaces just north of the Beard garage.

Gone is the smoked sausage, bbq brisket, homemade mac and cheese, baked beans, and collard greens. They ruined a campus favorite. Needless to say I won't be back.
