My vegan friends can disagree, but I love the look, the feel and the appeal of genuine leather products. I think the right adjective to describe leather should be "handsome" - there is just something about that dull sheen and that really classic look that just screams "grown up". I knew I had to move on from Velcro wallets that make such a racket when you open them, and I don't really like those long wallets that men insist on using (You know, the ones that look like checkbooks). I like it when my wallet is slim and compact, so that they don't really add a lot of bulk to my back pocket.
I saw S.C. Vizcarra's trunk show and pop up during A Manila FAME event a couple years ago. The FAME event showcases local handicrafts, and S.C. Vizcarra's premium line of jewelry, leather and other homeware items were on display. Again, everything was so handsome in different shades of leather- black, dark, tan, beige, etc. I knew i had to replace my boring, old and peeling wallet, so I bought a small and cute brown card and cash foldie that I still use up to this day. I must have bought it a good 4 years ago, but it hasn't even diminished in beauty. It even developed a gorgeous patina. It's just the perfect size for Philippine currency (though it was a bit of a snug wallet to use when I went to Indonesia, where the money is plain cumbersome to use).
S.C. Vizcarra has been around for nearly a century now. Their atelier in Roxas Boulevard, near the Airport Road has a really lovely showroom. You can pick up anything, from wallets to hatboxes, leather iPad covers and leatherbound journals. It's not even super O.A. expensive, so you can really go for great quality at less the price of mall-bought stuff. read more
