I don't know that I've ever had a finer cheese shopping experience elsewhere in the world. We came…read morespecifically for the store (not the cafe), and though it's on the smaller side: there are SO MANY delicious things to look through and buy (I dare you to leave here empty handed). The incredibly knowledgeable, incredibly friendly, incredibly engaging cheesemonger from France basically only had eyes for me (or so it felt; they take care of their customers so well here! I've never felt so spoiled!), and spent quite a bit of time both talking cheese with me and letting me try loads of different samples from locally made sources. I got quite a few options, and he did a spectacular job at giving me just enough of each so that I could have a Wine + Cheese Night For One back at my AirBnB. I also picked up some crackers, olives, and incredibly garlicky hummus. If you love cheese, do yourself a favor and come here. Even if you don't know where to begin except traits you like (funky, creamy, earthy, salt crystaly), they'll know exactly where to steer you, and will probably delight and surprise you along the way!

Superb cheese; a local blue, a local soft, and a Italian hard, all just as the French gentleman who…read morehelped us pick them out had described. The shop is delightfully petite and well organized. And the Tiffany blue of the store is what caught our eye, and lucky we did see it because we had a most lovely picnic.

I was taken out for a lunch meeting today, which is a rare treat in my line of work. A friend had…read morerecommended this place so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed, this a great little farm shop, they have a great selection of deli items, including jams, chutneys etc and sell loads of nice veggies as well as having great meat counter at the end of the shop. The menu was was simple but did not disappoint, they have a selection of breakfast options as well as salads, ploughmans and a sandwich selection on the lunch menu. We both had the smoked trout, it was on the menu as a terrine however we were told they had sold out but could offer a smoked trout salad instead. It was really nice, the Trout had a really nice flavour, and was served with salad and toast, the waitress bought out a couple of salad dressings and oh my god the spiced mango chutney was Devine. My colleague and I both bought a bottle to take home, I don't think it will last very long. We also had a tea for two which gave us about 4 cups each and was great value for money, tea was served in lovely China which always makes tea taste better! I will definitely be visiting again and next time I'll be taking some more money for some yummy treats to take away! Sorry only got a pic of the sauce as I'd left my phone at home.

It's all lovely round here, so it's a great setting- the farm shop sells a variety of local fruit and veg, plus honey, chutneys and chocolate (made very locally in Newton St Loe). There's a butcher too- all the meat is British and most of it is local. You can also get some very fancy cordon bleu ready meals- and I don't mean the kind of thing you'd see in a supermarket. Plus, always a bonus in my eyes, you can take a load off and sit down for a cream tea, or a lovely piece of cake- seating both inside and outside. Lovely little place, good for gifts and for higher-end farm produce.

Since it's…read moreone of the oldest cheesemongers and is well established, it is more expensive, but compared to American prices, it's still not that bad. They have a good selection of interesting cheeses. Even though it was empty on a weekday afternoon, the cheesemonger didn't seem particularly interested in helping us since we weren't buying a ton. I know it's annoying to let us sample and then cut a bunch of 100 g pieces, but we just didn't have anywhere to store the cheese on our trip. They also have lots of cheese tools and cheese related gifts, as well as their own crackers and lots of various spreads. It's a pretty cute and complete shop.

Paxton and Whitfield was always a London institution. And I love old traditional shops, especially businesses as old as this one. So, I went into this shop hopeful I could find a special treat for a picnic. It was lovely, a really special experience. The young man in the shop was really helpful and knowledgeable and friendly and not in the least bit snooty. There were lots of beautiful artisan cheeses from all over, including some special local cheeses. Suffice it to say that I tasted some beautiful cheeses in there and took some lovely stuff home with me. I can only recommend that you do the same. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
