I read the reviews prior to booking and I'm quite surprised more haven't given rave reviews. Here's…read morethe reasoning as to why I put this place at 5 stars. Upon booking, I received a personal email of staff reaching out to make sure I noted waterpark hours. What a great touch! When we arrived the front desk staff was very friendly and the room was nice and clean. I enjoyed my sleep in the king size bed and thought it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in recently. I also enjoyed the fact that they have a fridge and microwave. The waterpark happened to be open around the time we arrived so we made our way down to explore. Unfortunately we had a freak accident happen and my kiddo needed a trip to the ER. I was hands down impressed with how great the lifeguard, Kaya, on staff was. She came over right away and made sure things were handled well and guided me when I might not have been thinking in the most proper way. I'm still blown away at how calm and caring she was. I'm really hoping staff sees this review as well and gives her the praise that she should have! Even with the incident, we really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back another time when we can fully enjoy it all! Tip: they even have a small arcade for the kiddos on floor #2. Perfect size for kids to check-out! Comfy beds, nice rooms, breakfast each morning, a nice renovated and beautiful waterpark, all close to so many restaurants and stores. This place is great! Thank you for a memorable stay- we're hoping to come back and do it right the next time!

We spent the evening at the water park for a birthday party. My family was ready to leave, so we…read moredecided to shower and get changed. Signs were being used to hold both locker room doors open, but there wasn't anyone there saying they were out of use! Because of this, we decided it was okay to use the locker rooms along with the other guests. My son and I went to the men's room and had no issues, but my wife and our 5-year-old were not so fortunate. Staff members came in and told them they needed to leave the locker room while they were already in the shower. They made my wife and daughter feel like they had no time to get dressed or even finish washing off the soap. They tried to finish, but another staff member started yelling at them, saying they needed to get out immediately. They felt obligated to leave the locker room wearing nothing but their towels. No one told them they could stay to get dressed; they were just told to get out. They had to go out into the swimming area and try to use the family area, but it was already occupied. A kind father offered to check the men's locker room--where my son and I were still getting ready--to see if they could finish there. That is when I found out they had kicked my wife and daughter out with nothing but towels on. I helped my wife and daughter finish getting dressed, then went to express my concerns about how they handled the situation. I asked to speak to a manager, but one of the staff members threatened to call the police and told me to get out immediately!

This review will be cursory as I've gone through several medical emergencies since checking out,…read morebut I'm writing this quickly now because I feel it's important for both the employees at Baymont as well as future guests that are disabled. I've stayed collectively several weeks at Baymont this year. I really enjoyed the hotel, the professionalism of the staff. And I had a nice relationship with the manager, Nicole, who inspired me to use the hotel as a home base while working on various digital nomad projects. Nicole was the perfect blend of warmth and corporate expertise. Maybe corporate can figure out the backstory. I won't get into it here, but clearly something was going on. I needed to extend my booking at one point, but was told I needed to change rooms the following week, if I were to do that, because there was limited space. Of course, I didn't have a problem with this and agreed, and was told I was going to be moved the following Friday. The next Thursday arrived with me getting knocks on my door from housekeeping asking me when I'm going to leave, and passing me the phone with Rachel on it. She was aggressively demanding to know what was going on. I could hear her yelling through the receiver at the housekeepers before the phone even made it to my ear. She was yelling so hard that I could barely speak at first, then demanded I get out of the room ASAP with the two housekeepers watching as I packed like I was on the Titanic. Again, I'm disabled. Even packing is difficult for me. And just as I was finishing up, the housekeeper passed me the phone again and she says, good news, you can stay one more night, but I need you out by 8 or 9 a.m. tomorrow morning at the latest. Doesn't that sound good to you? I told her that it didn't sound good, that I'd already packed up my room, and if I'd done so, I'd just as soon go to whatever room I had to go to then to save me the trouble of unpacking and then packing again the next day. This clearly infuriated her. She acquiesced and gave me a horrible, dark, dank room on the bottom floor that I'm sure nobody wants, as some sort of weird retaliation. Then I could hear her yelling at the housekeepers to go in and clean the room right after telling them that they could go home because I was staying. I had to listen to the housekeeper talk to her poor family and let them know she wouldn't be coming home and be late. There was just no reason for it. She was angry at me and she was angry at the housekeepers for literally no reason. There were plenty of rooms available for any guests that would come in that night. And if housekeeping could afford to not clean my room that night, she should have just let the housekeepers go home as planned. I have a severe autoimmune condition where if I come into contact with the wrong environment I can have a seizure or lose the use of my left leg. It's very scary. The room that she sent me to had mold or something in it and I immediately had a blazing headache. Robert at the front desk was incredibly kind and professional and allowed me to switch to a room that didn't impact me like that. He, as well as the other staff, had been very kind and changed me to a room that was better. But it still wasn't great. After a very short period, I started getting cardiac arrhythmias in it. I got smells of the sewer coming up through the drain in the bathroom. And realized that was what was setting my cardiac condition off. And within a few days, I needed a change from that room too. I'm only saying this because, again, I had spent several weeks at the hotel. I never asked for one thing. I was quiet and did nothing but pay my bill. These are the only two times when I ever asked for anything. Finally... When it was time to check out, I had a problem with my rental car and asked if I could extend one more day and was told that the hotel was fully booked. But this was a Sunday, and I know there was plenty of spaces, and that they weren't fully booked. My family used to work in the hotel industry. I know that this is code for someone who has been blacklisted from the hotel. Despite spending several weeks there, and several thousand dollars, and never so much as asking for a single room cleaning, I--along with the staff--was spoken to and treated like a dog. Sensing that there was something different about me and my medical condition, she singled me out. It was inhumane and creepy. I'm really concerned about disabled people in the future as well as the staff. I've worked in hostile environments before, and this clearly seems like one to me. In only the first three months of the year, three very sweet staff members announced that they were quitting.

I called multiple times about early check-in and got a different answer each time. We did end up being able to check in early the same day, but it cost an extra $60. They also mentioned we were the only guests requesting it, which felt a bit odd. The water park was a highlight our kids had a great time. The only downside is that the water is freezing and there's a noticeable cold draft throughout the area. Our room was spacious and worked really well for our family of five. Wi-Fi was spotty, but the TVs were nice. Overall, some frustrations, but the space and water park kept the stay enjoyable for the kids.

Location - You have to drive for a bit outside of Brainerd/Baxter but you are right on the beautiful shores of Gull Lake. If you don't know anything about Gull Lake, it is one of the top lakes in the area. Big and beautiful lake - great for boating, fishing and swimming. Rooms & Building - This place has been around for quite some time and still gives off those old school lake resort vibes. I used to come here as a kid for a weekend getaway and some of the things have not changed one bit. Ha. All in all, they have kept up with maintenance for the most part. The rooms do show wear and tear but for how old they buildings actually are, you would expect worse. I kind of like the old-fashioned classic look - gives the building more history and a story than if they would bulldoze it and build modern. Amenities - The resort is loaded with things to do including a full-size gymnasium and ball court, a couple pools, arcade, hot tub, outdoor recreational activities, golf course, etc. Food - There are a few bars and restaurants onsite. We got pizza one night for dinner at the poolside restaurant and it was pretty good. Large size and priced very fairly for resort food. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - It is a classic location in the heart of Brainerd Lakes. It is different than just a "hotel stay" or smaller resort stay. It is a unique experience that one should not miss. Give it a try - great place for a weekend getaway with family and/or friends.

We didn't want to pay the equipment rental prices so we brought in our own inflatable kayak, and didn't get in any trouble. It's a beautiful lake, and we really enjoyed the view from the upper level deck near the Pizza place, which definitely had a good pizza! They gave us the wrong one, so I don't know what we actually got, but it was good. Thankfully they let us in to eat Pizza because upon arrival their system was down and we couldn't check into our room. The worker behind the counter seemed to be doing the absolute best minimum and wasn't super friendly. After lunch we checked back in and thankfully there was a much more competent and friendly person there to help us out. The system was still partially down, but he was able to give us some details on the status of our room and encouraged us to still enjoy all the amenities until we could check in. As another review mentioned the shower head was uncomfortably low for me, but I'm 6'6" tall so it's probably fine for most people. The indoor pool is quite nice and not overly chlorinated, no burning eyes from the fumes is great. My last thing is the way finding. I think part of it was the room we got (162). It was completely alone and not by any other rooms which made it hard to fine. Also certainly not as good of a view as upper level rooms. But in general there was very little signage and a lot of confusing stairwells with unknown destinations. We only stayed for the weekend, but I didn't feel very confident finding my way even at the end of our stay, so I feel like there could be an improvement there. It seems to be a good value for the money in this area and I would say it's worth checking out!
