I give the place the third star because I learned it was fairly recently purchased and the owners may be struggling. I gathered that the building was vacant for a while. I'm all for giving these people a chance to bring their business up. Great location on US371.
What's good: Very pet friendly. I felt comfortable with my dog there, and the pet fee was more than reasonable. The linens and such were fine, the TV up to date, and the beds very comfortable. Temperature was fine. I'm usually too cold in motel rooms. For the doggie people, there is a nice bit of grass to walk your dog. Also, there's a neighborhood for pleasant dog walking.
I recommend that the owners put up a dog waste disposal can on that side of the building. I think billing themselves as pet friendly, and making sure non-pet guests know that, may give them a market niche. Do everything you can.
Problems. They need more cleaning staff and they need to work on things like locks. When I arrived after 5pm, my room wasn't ready yet. After 5? After check-in I drove around to get dinner to have in my room, and then discovered that the lock to my room didn't work. The staff rekeyed the cards, that didn't work. Gave me new cards, that didn't work. I told them they'd have to move to to another room (I was afraid I'd have to leave and drive around to find another dog friendly motel, with my phone out of power). Well, they had another room for me, but guess what? It wasn''t clean yet. It was after 6pm.
But the young man in training, who provided the best customer service of all the staff, helped me and my doggo get to the new room, and all worked. Okay. Ate my nachos, drank my wine, walked the doggo, and went to sleep.
Big problem: Door A to the outside does not shut properly. One has to pull or push it hard get it to latch and engage the lock. I didn't see anyone one else but me do that. The door was open to the outside all the time, and any hoodlum from US 371 could've walked in and wrecked whatever mayhem s/he wanted without staff seeing them enter. I wasn't afraid, since I had with me a body guard that would've gone barking ballistic had someone breathed on my room door. But this is serious. I didn't say anything to staff because I figured they'd just say "yeah, we know, we'll watch it." Uh-huh.
Last thing. As the owners get their act together, they should definitely improve breakfast. Start by providing paper coffee cups that are really for coffee, not for tea. Those were the smallest assed coffee cups I've seen in a long time, and I am glad I had a Thermos. read more
