This is a truly dreadful jewellers and most of the people I know feel the same way.
My own personal experiences have been awful. I bought my unique, pre-owned engagement ring this year (not from Sherratt's) and after a couple of months the band on the rear began to crack.
I took it in to Sherrat's and asked them if they could either repair the band or replace it altogether by removing the shoulder of the ring and re-soldering onto a new band (which I would obviously pay for)
The lady behing the counter looked at it and informed me that it was completely irreparable and the best thing that I could do would be to part exchange it for one of their rings and pay the extra.
I explained that I didn't want to do this and would try somewhere else, at which point she became very pushy and rude and tried to force me to part exchange my ring with them.
I had also taken in a gold band that I needed to have enlarged by about 4 sizes and I asked if it would be possible to do this by adding extra gold (again, I would obviously pay for this). They took the ring and told me that it would take 5 days to get back to me with an answer. This seemed a little odd as I believed them to have an on-site jeweller but I left the ring with them and returned when they said.
Once more I was told that the ring could not possibly be enlarged by that many sizes and even if it could, it wpuld cost me between £40 and £50 purely for the extra gold.
Again I was advised to trade it in with them in a part-exchange sheme.
I declined and went to another jeweller's further down the same road. My irreparable engagement ring was fully restored on a brand new band and the other ring was enlarged at a cost of £11 in total.
I got the distinct impression that, had I been willing to spend a few thousand in the shop, I would have been treated very differently. Not a nice feeling for anybody and I would recommend for people to steer clear unless they wish to be made to feel like second-class citizens read more
