The shelter might not have a stellar past but I can assure you that everything is done to keep our cats safe and healthy. The individual who caused issues in the past is no longer in association with the ARN and has not been for years now. We found homes for more than 300 cats in 2020 and their new families can attest that the shelter is well maintained. Of course, it is an old building so it will never look like a 5 stars hotel, but we redid the all of the flooring and renovated most rooms in the last years. People passing judgments are probably doing it with good intentions, but the fact remains that they are misinformed. I wouldn't want these bad impressions to stop someone from adopting with us. I bought adopted my beautiful cat, Gertie, from the ARN back in 2010. Since then, I've been to the ARN to volunteer a number of times. I don't live in Montreal, but it's such a wonderful place, my family makes special trips once a year to come out to volunteer. The ARN really changed my outlook on life and cats. It is such a wonderful place full of cats and loving, professional volunteers. I never imagined seeing so many happy, affectionate cats and so many amazing heroes in one place. The adoption co-ordinator is the most skilled adoption co-ordinator I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She helped me find the perfect cat for me. The ARN has extensive files on all of the animals' personal and medical history, so they can help you make a thoroughly informed decision about your new family member. All of the cats are so happy and well taken care of at the ARN. I would recommend any cat lover visit to volunteer, even just once. It really is an experience worthy of a cat-lover's bucket list. read more

A woman who volunteered to foster cats for ARN and the diseases of the unscreened, unvetted cats brought into her home were highly contagious and ended up killing her own pet cat. The potential for this to occur multiple times is high given the situation inside the warehouses. Animal Rescue Network is absolutely disgusting on many levels, they are a disgrace to rescue in the Montréal region and take advantage of the unfortunately lax animal welfare laws in Québec. read more

This is a very serious situation of Animal Rescue Hoarding. There are over 700 cats in several locations. Many are left in cages for months and years at a time. Very respectful place for cats, and very careful people who are taking of them. Also the cats are available for adoptions with the shots and everything already taken care of for the health for a small fee. They also are doing some follow ups after adoption which means they are serious in what the are doing. A great place to help a cat for sure ! read more

In the end Barbara Lisbona- the Animal Rescue Network in Montreal- was found guilty of animal abuse/neglect. The stories were horrifying. She is prohibited from being near animals. Do not ever let her be in a position to do this to another animal. read more
