I needed service on a Saturday morning and didn't have an appointment. To complicate matters further, I wasn't familiar with where to go as I was visiting from out of town. So, I chose Rye Shell mostly out of desperation. I was relieved when Abe answered the phone. He was very frienbly and said they could accommodate me. As soon as I arrived, Jason started to investigate the situation - a burning smell and the heater not working. I have never been urged to want to write a Yelp review until now. The service and help that Jason offered at his body shop was amazing and I can't thank them enough. I accidentally filled my car with diesel fuel rather than regular and so my car wouldn't start. I towed it to this location at 3am and called first thing in the morning. Jason told me he most likely wouldn't be able to finish because he would need several parts and flushing the car out would take all day. I called several mechanics nearby and they all told me that this was not a "one day job." As someone who doesn't even live in New York, I needed my car to be fixed ASAP and I needed to get to work by tomorrow. I explained my situation to Jason and he immediately took my car in as soon as I got to the shop with my keys and started taking a look at it. Within several hours, Jason and his team were able to fix it.... for more than $500 less than what I was expecting (online quotes). All morning, he kept me updated with a new status as I waited and I watched him call all different vendors to make sure to get the best price on parts in the case my car needed it. I came here to get a state inspection and have my brakes checked out on my 2002 Toyota RAV4. The manager+mechanics were able to find the source of the noise, which was caused by debris buildup in the rear rotors. The price for the state inspection (which passed)/1 light bulb replacement/break checkup+lubrication all included was very reasonable (~$70). I appreciated that they also told me the price before doing the work, in case I didn't want to follow through with it. The manager was very honest and also gave me a few heads up on some parts that were starting to look bad. I will definitely be going back! FYI, I previously went to the Toyota dealership in Mamaroneck and they wanted to charge me some ridiculous amount ($300+) to get several of my lights (1 head light+2 fog lights+license plate light+1 tail light) replaced for the state inspection. I just went to a local AutoZone and did the replacements myself for less than $70 (although I did forget to replace 1 light bulb). The mechanic at the dealership suggested I also get my catalytic converter replaced, because it was apparently more than 25 years old (which would make no sense since my car was purchased in 2002). Needless to say, I will never be going back to that dealership. read more

Just called in to get an estimate for a service done on my car. Whoever picks up the phone here needs a lesson in phone etiquette and customer service. He didn't want to give me basic information for a simple service and got up tight when I asked for a price. I also came in to get my car's NYS inspection renewed earlier this year. Not only are they over priced, the guy in charge, which I am assuming is the same person who answers the phone, is incredibly rude and seems to always be in a pissy mood. Makes sense that they are the same person. I would avoid this mechanic at all costs. read more

They are honest and never try to over sell me. They get the job done in the time they say and try hard to fit you in. I read the positive posts and felt I had to counter. I brought my car in for an inspection and Jason provided me with a laundry list of reasons the car would fail. We are talking thousands of dollars of issues. I took the car to Mavis in Port Chester the next day for a second opinion and the car passed inspection with no problems. I have taken my car to Rye Shell in the past because it was very close to the Rye Train Station. They know this and I believe they take advantage of those who have minimal knowledge of cars. If you go to have your brakes done, they will try to upsell you to have all the brake fluid drained for $125 more. Have owned cars for 40 years and no one ever pulled that stunt before. My suggestion, take Jason's quote and get a second opinion elsewhere read more
