Yet when…read moredisability was needed, the process we went through to get disability was worse than the heart attack - it was a 5-month-long extended TORTURE. It was so bad, my company (which was involved in my dealings with UNUM) canceled every full-time employee's disability policy with UNUM. Instead of listening to both my primary physician and my heart doctor - who were in agreement, they supplied their own doctors (who didn't know me, understand the severity of my situation and according to my heart doctor, did not understand heart issues) and ended up with half a month of disability support, when we should have received seven months. The process was so unjust, we did not bother to appeal what they wrongfully determined, but canceled all our policies with them. Do not use or trust this company under any circumstances. Those who work there should be ashamed and leave.

Horrible company to deal with…read more Ive beIve been dealing with them for 8 months now on three policies for my late wife. They jumped me thru so many hoops, I did what they said and then they change the requirements. They have lost things i have faxed and mailed to them and only when i use certified mail do they acknowledge that i sent anything. When you call you get a different inept csr each time. When you email they reply by saying they cant help via email and to call. (I think that is because they dont want the customer to have a record of what was said) Even after i got a hold of a supervisor and he promised to get this squared away, things still got screwed up.....so yet another call today to a csr. When you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, you think they would have some compassion. It has been a nightmare dealing with UNIM!!!! SHAME ON YOU UNUM!

Recently I had shoulder surgery and I have short and long term disability insurance benefits with…read moreUnum Provident, Chattanooga, TN thru my employer here in CA. My surgery was not work related and I provided both my orthopedic surgeons and physical therapy contact information on the paperwork form when I first started the claim September 2023. This Unum company sends me numerous monthly emails wanting ME to contact the surgeon/PT and get copies of treatment, medical updates and when I will return to work. These professionals have patients to take care of and don't have time to be bothered with both me and Unum requesting the same information over and over and over. I spoke with my claim representative over the phone and asked her to stop bothering me with her bothersome emails over a lousy $39.00 weekly benefit. I told her it's not worth my time and she has all the contact information so SHE can contact them to get HER updates. I live in California and required to collect my short term disability thru the state, which I do collect at $2,000.00 a month. Unum picks up the difference so you can understand why I'm not wanting to be bothered by Unum, it's simply not worth my time. I didn't select Unum benefits during our open enrollment for 2024. My claim representative must have thought she was Queen or something because she tried to out talk me, wouldn't listen and finally I had no choice but to hang up on her. It's my opinion that Unum is not worth doing business with and seems like they're only interested in getting their premiums and not concerned about patient recovery.
