If you use FSA for your eyewear do NOT go here. I ordered a replacement frame for previous prescription sunglasses that broke. They did not put on invoice that they reused lenses from previous prescription. They are refusing to add to invoice which is needed for claim. All I am asking is for the invoice to state what was done, nothing more! This is causing me not to be reimbursed. Our business is lost and we have been a long time customer! read more

I'm usually not one to write a negative review, but my recent experience left me frustrated. Let me first say that I've been a patient for awhile (since back when they were across the street on West Road). That doesn't make me special, but it has given me an expectation for customer service and unfortunately it's declined. I was hesitant to go back after a similar experience last year, but didn't want to start somewhere new and Dr. Swanson is AMAZING, hands down the best doctor. It's a shame I can't stay the same about (some of) the other staff at this location... Here's the story: I'm leaving my current employer and haven't used my benefits yet this year, so I wanted to use them up while I still had them (my plan pays almost $200 for frames, covers all lenses, and also pays for contacts AND computer glasses each year. I don't wear contacts but the rest is top notch) and maybe spend some leftover money on my HSA card on some nicer frames. I came in for my exam in mid-August and realized I forgot my HSA card, so while wrapping up the exam I mentioned this to Dr. Swanson and asked if since I was an existing patient, would I be able to order my glasses and then pay when I returned to pick them up. She wasn't sure, but called in one of the opticians (a dark haired woman, I didn't get her name but she reminds me of Maleficent), explained the situation and asked her to help me out. I swear to God she rolled her eyes. So we go to the desk and before I can sit down and say anything the absolute crab apple of a human being says with an irritated tone, "so what do you need to do?" I explained again and she told me I'd need to pay for my glasses when I order. I figured as much, so that's fair but worth the ask for my convenience. I said I'd pay the exam co-pay with my debit card and then come back another day to pick out glasses. As soon as she knew I wasn't going to stick around to give her a sale, she told me my exam total and silently got up, returned with my receipt and handed it to me and walked away without saying anything. I was just a number to her and it made me so uncomfortable, I didn't even realize the total until I got to my car. I was charged $54 dollars (my co-pay is $10). I came back the next day and while I was waiting to be helped an older couple came in. The woman wanted help getting her glasses adjusted and the man who helped her was awkward and a little rude. I felt bad and hoped he wouldn't be the one to help me, but sure enough I got stuck with Robert. I asked him about the extra charge from my exam and he said "oh yeah, we include photos but most insurance doesn't cover it. It's standard with our exams." It would be great if RX tells patients that BEFORE the exam... total money grab!!! Anyway, I took some time trying on new frames while he was visibly impatient. I get that they were busy but the whole vibe was off and made me uneasy. I landed on a pair I liked and we sat down to pull up my insurance info. I told him I also wanted to look at computer frames, but he told me I didn't have that on my plan but tried to sell me a "better deal". I even pulled up my insurance plan on my phone to read to him, but he was right on the edge of being condescending with me, told me I was wrong and it really pissed me off so after some back and forth I told him I'd call and have them send authorization, but in the meantime let's just wrap things up with my regular pair. I left and called my insurance company and the lady laughed when I told her what happened because I AM 100% COVERED. Well, Robert and RX lost a sale because I decided to get my computer glasses from somewhere else that was nothing but happy to help me. For my regular pair that I did order that day (spent almost $50 dollars extra) I was promised to get them by 9/1. They told me they were delayed and finally I called on 9/7 to ask if they'd come in and they just did. 3 weeks after I ordered them... Unbelievable. As much as I like Dr. Swanson, I won't be back again next year. Not the end of the world, but it's been consistent and thats not how to treat people. read more

I haven't been to an eye appointment in 4 years and I was recommended to go this place. I'm very grateful I did. They where super nice and they didn't poke my eyes with any big scary stuff and I'm glad to know my eyes are still healthy :) also, it's very cool to look at your eye photos read more

Very happy i went to the Woodhaven location of RX optical. Jennifer was very welcoming and patient and helped me to pick out the perfect frames. they told me 5-7 days but they were ready in 2 days!! Al greeted me at the door and made sure they fit my face perfectly. i will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

They don't have the capability of email or internet apparently. (1/27/2018 ) They insisted the only two ways for me to get my eye prescription was 1. Pick it up or 2. Fax. I moved too far to make the drive just for my old eye prescription so when I asked if someone there could just email it to me, he repeatedly kept saying "we don't have those capabilities or the internet" 1. Don't lie and say you don't have internet. This store operates in 2018 without using internet some how? Even if that was the case I'd bet my life that there's at least one smartphone in the building. 2. Seems odd I can't get my prescription that I paid for. I got a letter from Rex optical woodhaven saying I was do for my eye exams so I made an appointment. I arrived a few days later for my exam. I needed new contact lenses and prescription was expired. The manager filled me in that my insurance was not accepted as I was a couple weeks short of 2 year prescription. I asked the woman manager why they said I was due for my exam when in fact I was too early. Contact lenses were very expensive. Good luck, I find these places are a big rip off. read more

Every time I go in for service the staff is fantastic! I typically purchase two pair of glasses and trust me my glasses aren't cheap with my prescription. The opticians are never ever pushy. I am a Salesperson myself so I can smell a shady one a mile away haha. Today when I picked up both pair of glasses I have to say the office manager stood right in front of me twice and never greeted me or said a word. I am so glad the rest of the staff does not follow her way of customer service. I just dropped $800 so I want to feel my business is appreciated. My glasses were transferred from the southgate location to the woodhaven location. I came to pick up my glasses, told to have a seat, received my glasses and asked "feel ok?" I replied it felt a little lop sided to the left. I was told to have a nice day. I don't always make yelp reviews but when I do, it's because I can't see. read more

I came to Rx Optical in Woodhaven to get my eye exam for the first time in my life. The eye exam was decent. However as I was picking out my first pair of glasses I was misinformed about pricing options. The person helping me did not inform me that I could have gotten free lenses instead charging me $150! The next day I called to ask about my options and the sales person got very angry and defensive. I cancelled my order and will not be a returning customer. Rx Optical also had a poor selection in frames. It was hard to find a frame that I genuinely liked. I now go to Henry Ford Optim Eyes which is phenomenal. read more

I've been looking for a new place to get the ol' eyes checked out because my visit to Pearle Vision left a bad taste in my mouth. Enter, Rx Optical and the most friendly staff EVER. I was so comfortable with everything; the ease of the appointment making, the optometrist, the staff that helped me order my contacts. Heck, even the crazy puff in your eye glaucoma wasn't that bad (and trust me I liken that the dislike for needles). All in all I had a great experience here and will come back. I bought 2 pair of glasses from them. 1 pair being Oakley sunglasses I guess those cost more than the others. I paid like $636 for exam and both pairs. Dr. Murphy seemed like a great guy. Everyone there was professional except for an overweight guy that was at the front counter that had browish type hair and some hair on his chin. Long story short I had a older pair of glasses which needed updating after some wear and tear. I decided to spend a little more and get a better pair of glasses. At first i thought every was great. The exam and selecting a new frame. I went away happy with my choice. Though i was will to spend a little more on a pair of glasses that not only were more sturdy but looked better, i had a budget i wanted to spend. The frames I selected just met that budget after I sat down and the sales associate when over my insurance. While waiting to pick up my glasses I did a search on the frames I picked and noticed how much cheaper I could have go them online. I still was under my budget so I didnt sweat it too much. Picked up my glasses and everything was great. Untill a few months later I was sent a bill for 60 dollars and a letter claiming I had exceeded the amount my insurance would cover and I must pay the balance. The sales associate had all my insurance information on their computer and claimed they double checked it and I was given and total to which I paid. I do believe I was unsold additional services knowing I had a limit and it wasnt going to be covered. Once again, I had a certain amount I wanted to spend and I went over that cause they misquoted me what would really be the balance. I cant recommend a business that lies to its customers. Friendless only goes so far when you are also being dishonest in the process. read more
