RVA Driving Academy is fabulous. Trilby Burt was our instructor and I will use her again for my other child. She is kind, patient, calm and a VERY good instructor. Ms. Burt corrects and teaches the new drivers when they need it, but she does not yell or cause stress. Ms. Burt makes a point to teach the new drivers about defensive driving too. Ms. Burt just "gets" teenagers. She converses with them and puts them at ease and it is not an awkward or boring driving session. The car Ms. Burt used for the teaching was clean and in great condition. She has the appropriate signage on the car to alert others on the road of a new driver. It was a 4 door sedan and my daughter was very comfortable learning in that car, even though she had never driven a sedan before. It was very easy to schedule and RVA Driving Academy was very responsive. Ms. Burt worked with us via text to schedule driving times around busy a school and after school activity schedule. It was quick and easy to get on her calendar. We got all 7 sessions done in just over a week. My daughter enjoyed her time in the car with Ms. Burt and when she "graduated" from Behind The Wheel she told me a few days later that she missed not having more time driving with Ms. Burt. We had an excellent experience and I highly recommend RVA driving academy and Ms. Burt. Schedule her, you will not be disappointed! read more

While they are very nice and the classroom experience was good, my son has been on a waiting list for months for behind the wheel and we have still not been contacted. I have no idea why we haven't been able to schedule the behind the wheel portion for almost 6 months now. We've reached out multiple times to see if we could get him scheduled and they keep telling us that someone will contact him soon. The individual instructors get to pick who they want and I'm afraid that there might be a bit of a bias in that process. A friend's child was able to get behind the wheel very quickly while mine is still waiting to be chosen. Sadly, I do NOT recommend this company. read more

We had the best experience for my daughter's behind the wheel lessons with Trilby Burt. She was patient, entertaining, fun and easy to get along with. She made everything easy from setting up the appointments to giving instructions while driving. It was all around a fantastic experience. Chuck Evans was our driving instructor and he did a fabulous job with my son. He helped to reduce the anxiety by putting him at ease while driving. I personally really enjoyed Rva Driving Academy. They were amazing when it came to working with my schedule, which is hard because I'm always busy due to sports, schoolwork, and family functions. Chuck Evans was my driving instructor and was excellent; I was able to complete my 7 days of behind the wheel in approximately a weeks time, and was able to get my license. I did behind the wheel before school in the mornings, and they were also able to pick me up from my house and I got to school with plenty of time to spare. I would definitely recommend this driving school to my friends because of their ability to work with your schedule and the efficiency put forth into making sure you are able to drive safely and correctly. read more

We wanted to warn others of our experience at RVA Driving Academy. We had some concerns going in since at least one of the RVA Driving owners had been an employee of Friendly's Driving School, which went out of business after numerous BBB complaints. But we saw the ad in the church bulletin and saw the car in our neighborhood, so we decided to try them. We contacted them in July, cleared the month of August, and our child was available for lessons for the majority of the day, every single day. Wayne Brown would call to schedule a lesson and a couple days later another person would call and say that was a mistake. We never knew if we had a lesson unless we called, and even then we'd get conflicting info. We would get a spreadsheet listing lesson times, but it would be cancelled the next day. When we had lessons, the meeting place, and often the drop-off, was across town. After four weeks with only 3 completed lessons and no further lessons scheduled, we complained and were again told they were backlogged with business. But in every lesson, our child was paired with someone on their first lesson, so RVA Driving was still adding new clients even though they couldn't provide lessons to the students they already had. We never got a firm schedule of the 7 lessons, but oddly enough, they did send us a bunch of other people's schedules. In several cases they did schedule people for multiple lessons a day, and all seven lessons in a few days' time. And some people had notations next to their names that they had to be finished by 8/24--so I think you can demand a completion date if you put it in your contract. On the last schedule we received, our child's 7th lesson would have been no earlier than Sept 26, about 8-9 weeks after we started. I can't believe scheduling was so hard for them--it's really just a spreadsheet. Some high school kid could probably do it for them. At the end of the day, we paid for a service we didn't receive promptly, and the business seemed unable to provide a firm schedule of when we would receive the services. We lost confidence in the school's ability to complete the lessons and handle the necessary paperwork with the state. So we found another school, started again, and completed the seven sessions and the test --All in less time than it took RVA Driving to schedule our 4th lesson. When I told them this, they weren't apologetic. Wayne Brown said I was lucky to find a place that wasn't as bursting with business as them. Only the money mattered, not customer service. So proceed with caution, and get a firm completion date in writing as part of your contract. read more
