Rutter Mills is one of the top personal injury attorney firms in Coastal Virginia. I didn't contact them when I had my traumatic & life changing car injury in 2014. I wish I had. I wanted a firm that had an attorney I knew. After retaining that firm I learned that the attorney I knew had retired and was referring his cases to a new associate, who also eventually left. Handling my case then was a partner. I've since learned that the father of one of my son's children's theatre friends was an attorney at Rutter Mills. I feel certain he would have given my case the attention it deserved. And I'm also sure he would have known how to handle my emotions during depositions when I would cry because of the part of my life that was forever changed and the fact that the accident killed my beloved dog. The firm I hired recommended I settle for less than I deserved & had lost because the process was so upsetting for me. Kim Avant was so rude to me. After leaving I called to speech with a Manager somehow Kim found out I was calling she called back apologizing. If I wouldn't have went there nothing would've been done. She spoke bad about her colleagues Lindsay not doing her job. I would never visit this practice again nor refer anyone. Kim said workman comp told her it was only 1 particular person she could speak with and they were out of the office. I called the exact same day and they said they DID NOT KNOW I EVEN HAD A ATTORNEY. This law firm is a joke! They sat and did nothing on a personal injury case I was supposed to be "represented " on. The lawyer Joe Young is terrible and only kept telling me " it is what it is" so to speak. I received no communication at all unless I called and demanded a call back and then it was from no one that was familiar with the case. I was constantly told I had to figure things out especially in my medical care and was sent to an insurance factory doctor office for nothing and finally told he could not help me. I finally went to my doctor and was told I had to have surgery. I was fed up and emailed Mr. Rutter and was then told to kick rocks. This was an accident where I was run into by a teenage girl and this firm was crap! This firm has no core values and only wants a hand out at the end. To anyone wanting good representation.... look elsewhere this place DOES NOT do what they advertise, it's quite the opposite. Waste of time! read more

Very unprofessional and unorganized. Mr. Slaughter is a very nice man, but his administrative team is terrible. From the pre-lit paralegal to paralegal- nothing was explained, nobody contacted me unless I left at least 3 voicemails, documents were lost and emails had to be constantly resent before being confirmed. My case (car accident) took over two years and had to be rescheduled because the paralegal didn't obtain all the medical records/ bills in time. I requested an appointment with the paralegal before my second court date to go over medical bills since I kept my own record and still found many gaps in her file. I wanted to take the file and just organize it myself. I did receive a settlement but half of it is being held in escrow to pay off the medical bills that were not already paid for- that was 4 months ago! Since then I have paid off all the medical bills that Rutter Mills was supposed to pay and have left multiple voicemails about getting the money from escrow. I still haven't gotten a response. If I didn't pay these bills out of pocket, they would have gone to collections. In the end, I'll never go back here just to do all the work myself, while giving up 20% of my settlement. read more

I had a social security disability case with Mr Robert Gillikin. He did not submit all my medical records. I found out thru social security examiners. I dropped my lawyer less than 2 months on case. I was told by lawyer they are still going to Bill me 25percent fee. I am going to dispute fee and contact the state bar association. I contacted my lawyer and offered to pay for time they worked on my case but lawyer declined. In a hardship situation and they are making it worse for me. Still waiting for social security disability but if approved lawyer is taking 25percent. Not fair bad choice for choosing Ruttermills. read more
