Originally built by Edward I as part of his campaign to conquer Wales, the castle has served various purposes throughout the centuries, including as a fortress, royal residence, and now as a hotel.

Visitors and staff have reported various paranormal experiences, including sightings of apparitions, unexplained noises, and cold spots. One of the most famous ghost stories associated with Ruthin Castle is that of the White Lady Jane, believed to be the spirit of a woman who suffered a tragic fate. Reports suggest she roams the castle's grounds and corridors, dressed in white. My auntie worked there in the late 60's and recounted many stories from the staffs paranormal encounters.
