(Originally from Mars Hill, NC, visiting family in Etowah, NC, currently living in Vermont.) I lamented that in this instance their policies would be denying a dog a good and loving home, and ended the call. Five minutes later, the same, self anointed "Director of Phone Etiquette" volunteer called back to chastise me, and my attitude. She ACTUALLY called back to put me in my place. (Hence the 1 star rating.) After a heated exchange, she told me to "Go back to the 'North' where you came from!" and ended the call. I think if I were an actual 'Northerner' I might have been offended by that statement. Keep this in mind my Northern neighbors who have moved to the area. Your 'Northern Dollars' might not be wanted if making donations. I feel sorry for this frustrated woman and anyone who has to encounter her. Guess I should be blocking the phone number, I suspect she might also be the self anointed 'Responder in Chief" to 'less than positive, reviews. Apologies only accepted by paper mail.

She calms my son on the spectrum and sleeps with him at night. She has awakened the empath in me and increased my drive/motivation. She helps me get out of bed, enjoy sunshine, and has brought so much love and laughter! And here I thought I was going to give to her/rescue her... What an absolute blessing! I ended up telling my friend about it, he called Foothills to check on it, spoke with someone who was suppose to call him back, that never happened either. I purchased a GoldenDoodle from Crockett last year. She was born on February 28, 2025, and she has…read morebeen a constant disappointment from the first day she arrived. She was sick when she got here -- vomiting and diarrhea, sometimes with blood in her stool. We took her to our vet, only to find that she had an intestinal parasite. Total cost to cure: over $500. She has also been a constant behavioral problem -- destroying furniture. Worst of all, she is afraid of almost everything -- from the first day she arrived. The Crockett trainer said she was shy -- hardly. It's as if she were traumatized as a very young puppy. She is the product of a Lancaster, PA puppy mill. The Crockett people should be driven out of business. We spent thousands of dollars for a dog that is a constant problem.

It's been a while since we've visited the humane society. I remember that we were able to interact…read morewith the animals last time we visited, which was quite a bit ago honestly. But this time it was different. You had to get on a wait list to be let in the room, and they watch you the entire time, and you have to commit to adopting in order to interact with the cats and dogs, which is so much pressure. I was told that they had to do it this way because the old way was stressing the animals out, because people had unruly children... I can see it both ways, but I was selfish in the moment and just wanted to cuddle some cuteness. I wish people would consider these things when they go places with their children, teach your kids how to properly interact with animals, and respect their space. That's how I teach my son, I point out the animals social cues to him, I tell him when to pull back if the animal is getting over simulated. We've never had an issue, we always enjoy our visits with our furry friends and it's always a great time! So, I hate that a boundary had to be set, most people are looking for their next pet and may not be ready to commit in that moment, had I known this prior to coming we would have not come at all. The facility is clean, but the minute you walk in to where the animals are being kept, you are slapped in the face with a really pungent smell... Some dogs had feces in the spaces that they were being kept in, which was really sad. Dogs are much messier than cats so I know it happens. Our visit this time around wasn't as pleasant, because of the changes. But the staff were super nice and attentive.
