This past weekend at the wine fest was made better by the folks from Bruno's Gastrotruck. The…read morefolks there were very nice and I thought they worked as fast as they could considering all of us wino's needing some serious grub! What we ate: Royale with Cheese - kobe burger, braised pork belly, farm egg, cheddar bacon jam (we needed more of that!), tomato, arugula, pickled onions, sriracha mayo; all on a challah bun. This also came with chips - they were nice and crispy, but needed some salt. Holy Smokes Taco - smoked tri tip, chiles, cheddar, pico de gallo, pickled onions, cabbage, huacaina, anticucho. All of that was served inside a naan-like tortilla with a side of chips. Angry tots - tots covered with Bruno's secret spices, anticucho and huacaina sauce It was all so good and we devoured all of it! We weren't necessarily interested in pairing all the food with an appropriate wine, so we went with Williamsburg's Governor's White. Good food, good wine, great event (I know, that's a different review altogether, but I digress). We should have had a Yelp Booth there. Maybe next year?

We eat at the Parkway Brewery (awesome beer and atmosphere) at least once a week..Tonight was the last time we eat from the truck. The menu has deteriorated, in terms of sophistication and variety. The construction and quality has declined significantly. From no duck fat fries to three julienne strips of carrot referred to as slaw and now tortilla chip instead of hand made chips as advertised. Tonight we had the fish and the pork belly both extremely disappointing, not what we had enjoyed a few weeks ago. We loved this truck, this is very sad. We will take a picnic to the brewery, their beer is still worth the drive.

But this is a legit truck stop godsend. If you want a sit-down Indian restaurant, Staunton is the closest area. The food truck is set up near a gas station, with dodgy bits of road and a couple of unsheltered picnic tables. It isn't much. The food, however, was exactly what I'd hoped. Ordering a paratha got me a giant bread and a ton of accoutrements including yogurt, butter, and onions. A black chickpea curry was made fresh and delivered a balanced mix of herbs and spices. I wasn't that hungry so I got a meal and a half out of that. I wish I could have ordered more. Given that I pass the area regularly, maybe I will. I haven't been to a truck stop in the actual Pubjab, but this is about what I'm expecting if I ever go.

Truly an incredible culinary experience, made all the more amazing given its randomness. I was sold on the first bite. Probably better flavor than most Indian restaurants I've been to. Can't recommend enough, just be prepared for a street food setup that will be messy (everything comes in takeout containers and can travel). There is one small picnic table nearby. Apparently they're open 24/7? Mind-bogglingly good.
