Review Highlights - Rusticana Coffee

The rest of the goodies that were made there looked phenomenal, although after three days of overeating in Victoria we chose to resist.

I like the different seating options & the big windows allowing so much natural light inside. Even on a rainy day, you get an energetic community vibe sitting inside as this place is popular with all ages. The coffee shop always has specialty drinks but I'm quite happy with their tea & mocha options. The panini is a perfect size for a lighter lunch & remember to save room for their really tasty dessert options. My favourite is the cookie sandwich that's dipped in chocolate. It's actually the size of the panini (perfect if you got a sweet tooth!). If you find the line up long, take a wander through the back corner of the coffee shop. There's local products that make nice gifts or special treats for yourself. I also like this coffee shop as it is all one level from parking lot into coffee shop. I have yet to get there in good weather but there seems to be space for tables outside for nicer days. Washroom is a decent size but I do wonder if someone in a wheelchair would be able to make the turn/ tighter angle due to the divider wall between seating & the washroom. Cane & walker users would be fine though. I look forward to stopping here when I get the chance for another mocha & continuing to try different light lunch options & their very lovely snacks/desserts.

Fox & Monocle Cafe - Prairie Rancher Beef Tartar

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fox & Monocle in the North Saanich/Sidney area, and the…read moreexperience was truly memorable. From start to finish, everything was beautifully prepared and wonderfully served. We began with the truffle gougere -essentially delightful little cream puffs filled with melted parmesan that were absolutely to die for. Each bite was rich and delicious. Next up was the bread served with onion butter, which had a fantastic flavor profile. My only tiny wish was that the bread had been toasted just a bit to help that lovely butter melt right in. For the main course, we shared a mushroom pie that was beautifully presented and had that comforting, home-cooked feel. The standout dish of the night, though, was the rock fish. The fish was tender, flaky, and paired with pillowy soft gnocchi that was just perfect in texture. We ended the meal with a dark chocolate namelaka (a type of soft biscuit) and a sticky toffee pudding, both beautifully presented. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious, though I personally would have loved just a bit more of that rich sauce to soak up the entire cake, Overall, the service was wonderful, and the meal was impeccable. The area is truly lucky to have such a fine dining gem, and I can't wait to go back again!

Every baked good was perfectly semetrical and there were regulars, bicyclists, and families. The only thing missing was the cool color tones of a Wes Anderson movie to capture mood and dialogue. I tried two of the breakfast sandwiches: beef and an egg and sausage. Both were delicious. I also tried their galette with mushroom and cheddar. It was a nice savory bite of crunch from the pastry dough , and texture of the mushrooms and spices. My belly was full for the direction of my 3 hours on the island. Service was very good also.

The pork was out of this world, best pork tacos I've ever had. Fish and shrimp tacos were good as well. This could be the best Mexican restaurant in Canada and it's just sitting out here in the middle of nowhere. Friendly staff too, appears to be family run. If you live in Victoria it's worth the drive to check this spot out

This is about the worst Mexican food I've eaten, and I've eaten in many Mexican restaurants,…read moreincluding in Mexico. I got chicken quesadillas. The chicken inside was ok. They arrived on a paper in a plastic basket and were drenched in grease. The sour cream on the side was very watery. The salsa fresca was mostly just diced up flavorless tomatoes; very bland. Plus there was just a tiny cup of each, so not much to cut the greasiness. Waitress never came out to see if I wanted anything more. The horchata (rice drink) was also at least twice as watery as normal. Are they cutting costs by watering things down? The outside eating area could have been nice, but it is very neglected. The pots held mostly weeds and the seats and ground had lots of old dead leaves. It's summer now, not Fall, so those leaves have been there a while. The food was very slow in coming even though there was just one other table. (Folks at that table were also complaining of the long wait). The reggae music was nice (but a further indication this is not a real Mexican place). This place needs some serious attention from someone who cares.
