The staff there were really friendly at reception and over the phone (you can also make an appointment via email if you're anxious about phone calls). The student who looked at my mouth was professional, friendly and explained what they were doing. Their teacher/supervisor who double checked was also lovely. From memory, it was free because I had a health care card, which was amazing! It was only a check up though and there are different prices for different procedures. If your budget is tight, or you want to give some student dentists some practise, give them a ring :).

With my health care card I was given a free consult at the dental school, and the dental student I saw advised me that the root canal could be done. I was given a professional quote outlining the treatment details and cost - approximately $750 for a root canal with an amalgamation filling, or $1250 for a root canal with a crown. I scheduled in for another appointment a few weeks down the track. On the morning of the treatment the receptionist phoned to advise me that the dental student was sick and my appointment was cancelled, that it was suddenly too difficult to perform the root canal, and that I should seek private treatment. I had the feeling that something wasn't quite right, and asked why they now refused to give me the treatment despite having given me a professional quote. The receptionist phoned back after a chat with the lab manager, and offered me an appointment to 'begin the root canal' the next day with another dental student. The next day, a student with apparent little experience began the root canal as promised, but once the decay had been removed they once again advised me that the root canal shouldn't be done because there was little tooth remaining. In hindsight, its clear to me that this was understood by the dentists upon analysis of my x-rays at the consultation, that I've been used as a practising tool for the students, and that the cancelled appointment was indeed because the student was ill, but the advice to seek private treatment was given because they knew that the root canal would never be completed. You see, the students need to practise beginning root canals on live patients, and their concerns are clearly with gaining experience for themselves, without a care for wasting the patients time. Its true that you get what you pay for, and indeed I ended up with a free tooth extraction, but if I'd known that this would have been such an ordeal, I would have saved myself several appointments,a ton of stress, and instead taken myself to the free dental hospital at Woolloongabba to have an extraction. My final appointment was for a tooth extraction, which was terribly painful. When I arrived I was advised that they might have to cut open my gum to remove the tooth, which would incur a prolonged healing time and a painful recovery. It seemed as though the managing dentist changed his mind about this after I mentioned I had a job interview scheduled for the next day, although I can't be sure that this is their reasoning because they went elsewhere in the clinic for their discussion. They worked within the socket instead, saying that this would be easier recovery for me and that its the way that most professional dentists choose to work. Whatever happened, whether they changed their minds at the last minute about giving the student the opportunity to practise a gum excision because they wanted to spare me the pain and give me a chance to attend my job interview, or whether they left the decision about the treatment until the end but made me aware of all of the possibilities when I arrived, it was a stressful experience. I imagine having a tooth removed would be stressful wherever you go, but it was my first tooth extraction so I don't have a comparison. The student performed the easier parts of the surgical extraction, and the experienced dentist did the more complex parts. It was about a week before I was able to cease pain medication, and a week and a half before the pain subsided completely. The dentist prescribed panadeine forte upon my request, which came very much in handy. They were also happy to provide me with a medical certificate in case I was in too much pain to attend my job interview. Prior to this ordeal, I received a plaque removal from another student. With my healthcare card this treatment was free. The initial appointment was two hours long, and involved a medical history, a quick clean, an examination and a treatment plan. The students don't have access to dental assistants, it seems difficult for them to multitask, and it takes a long time for them to get things done. They're required to have each component of their work checked by an experienced dentist, and sometimes there is a wait involved in gaining their attention. I was lucky to make it in for an x-ray just in the nick of time, otherwise I would have had to come back in to have these done on another day. The second appointment was for the plaque removal, and I feel as though the student did a good job. She had informative answers to my questions and gave me a toothbrush with some toothpaste to take home. The moral of the story is if you have the cash to pay for dental treatment, I think its worth going to a private dentist, but if you don't have the cash be prepared to be a guinea pig.     I recently thought about changing dentist for better convenience. I'm pretty glad I chose this one…read more Everything in the clinic is very new. They have a toilet and magazines that aren't torn. A fish tank. A TV is on the ceiling of the clinic I was in. But what I mainly noticed was what was done during my scale and clean. It's one of the best ones I've had and i was thankful for the fluoride foam on the tooth tray which was at the end. My old dentist uses a blue gel which is fairly gummy and it's kinda gross seeing as you're not to rinse it out for half an hour. They smear it on with a cotton wad and it gets all over my lips and tongue. X-rays are instant. They show up on a computer monitor also mounted up high so that you, the patient, can it straight away. They also took some photos using a tube camera of the tops of my teeth which were also displayed instantly. I got a care pack on leaving, containing a toothbrush, two mini toothpaste, a stick flosser and magnet. Should you be too early there is also a cafe just two shops away.

I had complete trust in him and he did a terrific job with my root canal. His assistant (also the receptionist) was also very friendly and helpful. I almost looked forward to my follow up visits.

I am a person who needs to know and trust the dentist !!! i attended for check up and clean every 6 months each time a new dentist.... a couple great a couple awful one was at 1pm appt on a Saturday. (In case they look up my appts) well if I could have left I would of because I was a nothing in the chair and all she spoke of was Finnishing the day to go out . the last one was another new one very rough they didn't even have the decency to tell me there'd be another new dentist . when I asked the receptionist said they must have missed me when sending out notifications the other thing was each visit I had to get fillings redone why I ask because what they use doesn't last long. I found a new dentist who's staying put

    Having had every tooth-related experience in my lifetime (think plates, braces, teeth-removal,…read morewisdom teeth removal [commonly referred to as chipmunk face] and retainers), I'm pretty fussy when it comes to deciding who can touch my teeth. At BOH Dental, I'm more than happy for everyone there to touch my teeth. Well, not the snotty-nosed kid next to me in the waiting room, or the reception staff...OK, anybody with dental qualifications; just so we're clear. So I had a delightful experience visiting this clinic for the first time - the reception staff were friendly and guided me through the obligatory paperwork prior to my appointment. The appointment actually began on time (rare for a dental surgery) and I was ushered into a spacious room, complete with sweeping views across the city. It felt more like a setting for a restaurant, rather than a dentist's (added bonus for those terrified of dentists). My dentist was absolutely lovely, he gave me tips on flossing techniques and we became caught up in a discussion over the benefits of adding fluoride to Brisbane's water supplies. Upon completion of my appointment, he walked me up to the reception desk and said he'd offer me a 20% discount because he was so impressed with my teeth. I'm definitely looking forward to my next check-up in one year!

    I am quite disappointed in the services. Firstly, in the orthodontic treatment itself. I felt like…read morenumber one priority was not the client's best interests for Dr Weir but to avoid any law suits. I asked him whether he thought it was time to take my braces off. He reply was, "if you are happy with them." He offered very limited orthodontic advice when it came this matter. As I asked over and over again for his professional opinion, he only replied "if you are happy." HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW IF MY TEETH ARE ORTHODONTICALLY CORRECT? He is the orthodontist. This does not sit very well with me as I hired Dr Weir for his professional opinion and expertise. It just got to a point that my treatment extended and I just said take them off before even more damage is done. I felt like their were quite straight at one point. And then in the last month, what happened was he did some 'refining' and they moved out of place. And then upon coming back, I have enquired into this and the only reply I received was the very same you see above. We moved it one more time, but this time it was much more to my opinion than his own expertise. He had not provided any comments to this situation despite I had asked for it several times. If he advised to not move it. I wouldn't of have. Also, one of my teeth are slightly out of shape. He twisted the tooth to look straight. There was no communication. If he had asked me or remembered when reading my file, that tooth was out of shape because it chipped and the fix up job was not perfect. But I was going to get that fixed post orthodontics. Later on, my permanent retainers had snapped. Firstly, I was not given any instructions on how to take care of them or if I should bite or chew in a certain way. I felt as if Dr Weir just wanted me out as a patient because he didn't want to deal with an unsatisfied customer. Then, upon fixing the permanent retainers, he had not informed me or communicated that he was going to glue the retainer on the last remaining bit of glue on my second tooth to the left. Now, it is pertruding and is causing much discomfort as my permanent retainers are far from even behind the teeth. I was also never explained to how to floss my front teeth. When I enquired during the fixing of my permanent retainers, Dr Weir spoke to me in a condescending manner and said, "this is how you do it. I don't think that was too hard?". I was spoken to as if I was stupid. I could go on and on. This is only the few of the many other things I have been disappointed with in Dr Weir's services.

Perhaps it is repressed…read morememories of those Queensland Health dental vans as a primary school student or the plate I wore for years to correct an overbite but either way, like 99% of the population, I am not one with a great deal of love for dentists. Last year though, one of those "you know you're an adult when..." moments happened when I suspected my wisdom teeth were coming through and a visit over and above my standard dental check up was needed. Face Value Dentists were affordable and most importantly, professional. Not once did I feel uneasy under the care of their dental team and they quickly assured me it was not my wisdom teeth, but I would need a few fillings. Gah! It's ok the process was over in the blink of an eye and the pain was virtually non-existent. A great dentist for those of us who love to hate dentists.

I still could not understand how this happened. He provided insurance card. I guess they swapped on machine. How can they make mistake? I contacted BUPA first and confirmed it was wrong. Then at least I rang office four times and sent email four times to get this sort out. From the call three, they realize they are wrong and gave me a huge apologize. And promised me twice would process refund to us ASAP. However, two weeks past, we still have not received the refund. I am going to make another call tomorrow .. Very disappointing...
