I used to work in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. Those communities have a number of restaurants that specialize in the cuisine of India. After years of enjoying lunch buffets I thought I was reasonably educated to the food. I enjoyed both meat and vegetarian curries, tandoori chicken, biryanis, pakoras, naan and a variety of chutneys. RusiVada's India offerings are vegetarian. Since we loved the Pirozhki so much we had to sample some of the other side of their menu. We left it up to Ravi and Natalia to choose a sampling for us. They prepared Masala Dosas, Sambar, Vada, Idlis, mini samosas and several chutneys. Other than samosas none of the other dishes were familiar to us. The food arrived hot and fresh. The smells when we opened the containers was intoxicating. The dosa was hot and amazingly crisp. It had a pleasantly fermented taste that paired well with the spiced potato served with it. I could have easily made a meal out of that dish alone. The Vada is a fried donut shaped bread like item. The Idlis is a fairly dense, white, spongy fermented bread like item and the mini samosa was stuffed with vegetables and fried. Not knowing how to enjoy these items we dunked them into the Sambar (vegetables in a flavorful broth) and the red and green chutneys that RusiVada selected for us. After the first bite I went into an eating frenzy. I enjoyed the meal so much I forgot to take pictures. While I thought I knew good Indian food I find I was wrong. Fortunately my family has found RusiVada to properly educate us. read more
