UPDATED REVIEW:
Rushing Handyman Services -- Unsatisfactory Workmanship, Unfinished Painting, and Unreturned Materials
I am updating my previous positive review of Rushing Handyman Services after learning that others have considered hiring Mr. Rushing based on my recommendation. In good conscience, I believe prospective customers deserve an accurate and complete account of my experience.
My first project with Mr. Rushing, involving wall patching and floating shelves, was satisfactory. Unfortunately, my second experience, involving painting my garage and front doors, was disappointing.
I was dissatisfied with the quality of his workmanship and made the decision to terminate his services before the painting was completed. At that point, both doors had received only one coat of paint and remained unfinished. Additionally, a noticeable hole in the wall above my kitchen door, caused during his installation of a fire monitor, remains unrepaired.
I paid $400 strictly for labor and separately covered all material costs. The value of the materials I purchased that were never returned totals $179.31 ($160.52 and $18.79).
Mr. Rushing attributed part of our disagreement to changes in paint colors. However, the initial change was necessary because he purchased the wrong color. My decision to terminate his services was based on concerns about the quality of his workmanship, not simply a disagreement over paint colors. I had lost confidence in his ability to complete the project satisfactorily.
On July 2, 2026, regarding the return of my materials, Mr. Rushing texted:
"I have a whole life with kids and responsibilities. I will drop them off as soon as I can."
Despite that statement, the materials were not returned. After receiving no further communication from Mr. Rushing following his July 2 message, I sent a final notice by text message on October 14, 2026, addressing the unfinished painting, unrepaired wall damage, and return of my purchased materials.
Although I had terminated his services, I postponed hiring another painter to give him an opportunity to address the workmanship concerns and return my materials. As of this review, these matters remain unresolved.
I believe in recognizing satisfactory work, which prompted my original positive review. However, integrity requires me to be equally forthcoming when a subsequent experience raises legitimate concerns about workmanship, professionalism, and accountability.
My first review reflected my experience then. This update reflects what followed.
Based on my second experience, I cannot recommend Rushing Handyman Services. My dissatisfaction with the workmanship, the unrepaired hole in my kitchen wall, and $179.31 in unreturned materials have fundamentally changed my assessment of his services. Homeowners deserve quality workmanship, responsible handling of their property and purchased materials, and accountability when concerns arise. read more
