Came here on a Friday morning to practice some wildlife photography as well as getting some steps in. The only drawback was it was foggy so sunlight was limited. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful property to stroll around and take in all the nature. There are trails that go around the marsh and pasture areas that is easy for novice walkers. I was able to get a few quality photos working with the fog elements. Would definitely come back on a more clear day. read more

Amazing scenery, great & lively staff, events held in this establishment are always fun!

What a wonderful place to visit. There are picnic tables to sit at to eat, lots of open space to animal watch or draw, and even a little museum. The information center can point you in the right direction. I went during an open house where you can purchase food from vendors, do a little shopping and even listen to live music. This is not directed at Rush Ranch, but the people in the office that are supposed to schedule events at this location. I wanted to bring my senior residents here for a tour and a wagon ride. I have called AND emailed multiple staff members over a 3 week time period and got one half-assed response from Kelly. When I asked more questions or tried calling....crickets! I understand it's free but still not a good look. read more

This is such a wonderful place to visit for many activities! You can hike the many trails, bird watching, picnic with bbq pit available, and once a month you can interact with some wonderful and very knowledgeable group of people that will enlighten you to experience blacksmithing, explore the Kit House and all the birds, mammals, plants and life on the ranch. Missed the carriage ride this time but most definitely will be back next month to experience that and explore more trails! This is a wonderful treasure to be enjoyed by everyone! read more

After hiking 4hrs at Lynch Canyon Open Space we drove over to Rush Ranch Open Space since it's not very far away. It's FREE parking at Rush Ranch. It's pretty neat. There's a barn, horses, Water Tower, Visitor Info Center with stuff to read & pick up map/brochures there. Nobody was there to answer questions. Murals are pretty cool. Make sure you get brochures so you can do 2 hikes: Marsh Trail This popular trail is an easy, mostly level 2.2-mile walk that begins at the Visitor Center and heads west to an overlook of the Suisun Marsh and adjacent lands. South Pasture Trail A mostly level (but wet in winter) 2.4-mile trail that begins at the water tower south of the barn and leads to a small overlook and a large Native American grinding rock. The trail loops back around the south pasture, crosses a boardwalk and brings you back to the visitor center. Didn't see bones - bummed. Just don't do both when you're tired out like I was! Flushed bathrooms available. No dogs, horses or bicycles on Rush Ranch trails (dogs are allowed on Suisun Hill Trail only), and no collecting of flora and fauna. Directions From Highway 12 in Suisun City, head south on Grizzly Island Road for about two miles. The entrance gate is on the right. Hours Rush Ranch is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. (or dusk, if earlier) from March 1 to Oct 31, and from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. from Nov 1 to February 28. A little while ago, me and my family were walking on the Suisun Hill Trail, the only trail in the reserve that would allow dogs. We brought our Chihuahua and Staffordshire terrier mix in with us on this journey. When we arrived, we were astounded to see that the trial had cows lining the sides. There was a gate that lead us into the trail, so we opened it, and went inside. We had heard that if you don't bug the cows, they won't bug you. "If one [a cow] approaches you, just keep walking and do not make any loud noises." The sign at the start of the trail read. Our dogs were pretty good around other animals, so we didn't worry much. As soon as we opened the gate, we were met with a hoard of cows awaiting us. We nonchalantly brushed them off, and just kept walking. The rest of our journey upwards was uneventful. None of the cows bothered us, so we assumed, like the sign said, that the cows were chill about us being here. We reached the top of the hill and were met with an astounding view of the park and neighboring cities. We stayed there for a little while, then began our downward ascent of the hill. Halfway through our journey, we were startled by a pack of large cows standing in the middle of the trail. Not thinking much of it, we kept walking, and the cows gradually moved out of the way as we neared them. Unfortunately, our dingus Chihuahua decided now would be a good time to bark. A medium sized black cow, presumably female, proceeded to rear up on her hind legs and emit a noise somewhere between a sneeze and a fart from her large nostrils. The sight was quite terrifying, and I was beginning to fear for my life. The cows started to mooooooo all around us, but we just kept walking. I was very much shaken, but I stayed quiet and continued walking at a brisk pace. We thought we had seen the last of the cows, until we came upon the exit of the trail. A whole ring of cows was surrounding the exit. We tried to walk through, but the cows would not move. One of them snorted at us, and we jumped back in fear. Meanwhile, the only other way out was over a barb wire fence. "I'm gonna jump the fence." I said shakily. "No, you're going to rip your pants!" My mother replied. "Well, I don't want to die!" I hissed back at her. Meanwhile, two rather large cows, one red and one black, had gather behind us, slowly drawing closer. We began to panic. If we didn't do something, we would become cow patties. In a plight of heroism, I jumped the fence. My pants stayed relatively unscratched. Now I was out, but my parents and my sister were still on the other side. My mom frantically handed the Chihuahua to me as my dad lifted my sister over the fence. The cows were drawing closer to my parents by the second. My mom shimmied over the fence, as our big dog commando crawled under the wires to safety. Just as the cows were about to close in, my dad hopped over the fence. WE WERE SAVED! The cows grunted in disgust as we walked away, relatively unharmed. "HAHAHA, PEACE OUT SUCKERS!" I yelled as we strutted off to our car. In conclusion, Rush Ranch is a nice place. The volunteers and workers are very nice and helpful, but I would not recommend going to the Suisun Hill Trail if you want to come out alive. No hate towards Rush Ranch, just the cows there that almost killed us. At least I'll have a really good story to tell when I'm older. (On a side note, my mom ripped her pants climbing over the barb wire fence) read more

Free parking and beautiful views. Unfortunately we did not get to view all the space has to offer as we were not mindful and neglected to bring mosquito repellent. We did not just receive a few bites - we received MANY bites and it was very difficult to continue the entire trek as it became EXTREMELY uncomfortable. So tip - carry repellent in vehicle at ALL times. Oy. The area we did get to enjoy was quite lovely and made more enjoyable by the cool breeze. There are areas by the marsh of course that are a bit more humid so dress in layers. My friend picked up pamphlets and in it notes areas of interest which are marked along the trail. Hopefully I have an opportunity soon to return and enjoy more of the space and share more photos to reflect of this space. read more

The Ranch is a wonderful place to experience nature at its finest, talk with an extremely knowledgeable horseman and see the mares and their babies. *Regarding the stargazing event* As beautiful as the land is and as wonderful as the concept of the stargazing night is, my family, friends and myself will not be returning to this event at Rush Ranch. We've attended three separate nights and each time there were volunteers who were rude, disrespectful and completely unwelcoming. This is not to say that every volunteer behaved this way, but after multiple individuals on more than one occasion left us feeling unwelcome in this space we are using our best judgment and avoiding subjecting ourselves to this type of treatment. I've worked with the Solano Land Trust in the past and truly appreciate the efforts made to foster community education and a love for our county's open spaces however, the individuals who are chosen to impart knowledge to the community should be held to a certain standard and should be capable of providing all guests with basic kindness and dignity. We came to these events and donated every time because we are aware and appreciative of the fact that this is run by people volunteering their own time but perhaps some of them should reconsider their position if they aren't truly passionate about sharing their knowledge with those of us in the community. read more

The Delta has lots of recreational opportunities, sure, but they largely cater to boaters, hunters, fishers, and naturalists who are fascinated by endemic beetles and such. So if you're looking for a place to simply get the lay of the land on foot, there's not a whole lot of options. Fortunately, though, there's Rush Ranch, a small (2000-acre) open space preserve on the road to Grizzly Island. Not surprisingly, it's situated on a former ranch, whose buildings now house a modest but interesting visitor center. There's some trails out towards the marsh, but I particularly enjoyed climbing up Suisun Hill across the road, which gives you an excellent 180-degree view to the south and west, all the way to Mt Diablo. If you have time, you should really follow the road all the way to Grizzly Island while you're here. There's more hiking at the Wildlife Area there, although not in hunting season, which is like half the year. At any rate, even a drive through Grizzly is pretty interesting; you'll feel worlds away from the city. (Note: I can't seem to get the map to show the correct location. It's located about a mile south of the bridge over the slough). read more

We were just out at Rush Ranch, beautiful trails to walk, very nice place for hiking. However, was totally mortified to see how the horses were (not) taken care of!! The pens they were in were completely in mud, the water was green, full of moss!! It was quite disgusting!!! I only wish I had taken a picture of it to post here!! read more

As a wedding venue... Not enough people know of this place and I almost would like to keep it that way! The weather was unpredictably cold and windy the day of our wedding due to a cloudy overcast but the sun came out just in time for the ceremony. The setting is beautiful and everyone at the ranch was so helpful throughout the whole planning process. A few things to consider: Off the grid, solar panels and wind mills. This means, after dark and low wind speeds, power cuts out every now and then. But, don't worry, the onsite generators kick in pretty quickly. Wind at high speeds... most of the time. I suggest holding the dining area indoors or in the picnic area, where the wind is blocked by trees and your guest (and table decor) can sit in peace. Bring more lighting! We had just enough to light the dance floor; which worked out for us because it drew everyone together. But, outside of this area was pitch black. With that said, it was the perfect wedding location for us. The stay overnight at the guest house was great as well. We recommend rush ranch for the low-impact / do-it-yourself kind of couple that has lots of friends and family who are willing to help make their day special. read more

We went to the Rush Ranch open house. We had a good time. We ate before we took our carriage ride. The hamburger was great and the price was right. We were going to have our second hamburger before we go home but the line was very long. I did the wheat weaving and pinned it to my hat. They have given away plants like the scarlet runner bean, which I am very excited to grow. We saw the spotted foal, the mother was all white. Just a nice place to relax and they have good live music. We always come here every year. They welcome monetary donations to see the foal and to ride the carriage. read more

Went to Rush Ranch yesterday & took my 90 y.o. dad for their annual family day celebration. We had a blast. So much to see - inexpensvie food - fun day. Will go back to hike the tails another day. Nice having places like this so close to home. read more
