Which is unheard of considering other vets are months out for making appointments! I read the negative comments about some perceptions of 'bad' phone etiquette. However, I think people are misconstruing between being 'rude' and being 'efficient'. I have called several times and each time my questions were answered directly and honestly. I will say that most people are used to receiving what I call 'small talk'. You will not get that here. I think what people need to realize is that this veterinarian office is busy! The phones are constantly ringing. At least every time I have been there. There is no time in their schedules for idle chit-chat. I can tell that Dr. Roundy cares deeply about animals and their well-being. I read the negative comments about him 'being rough' or what have you. I disagree. He did use the scruff of my cat's neck to get him out of the carrier, and that is not how I handle him. However, in my opinion it was to show dominance to the animal as to who is 'in charge'. To be honest my cat is sassy and he was on his best behavior with the Dr. after that. The other negative comment about Dr. Joe Roundy was that he is 'abrasive' with us human owners. Well, his 'bed side manner' is geared towards helping the animal and not the human bringing in the animal. I will say that if you have neglected your animal in any way shape or form you WILL be called out directly by this vet. Yes, you absolutely will. If you cannot handle being called out for YOUR faults as a pet owner, I would advise you to seek out a different vet. Dr. Joe Roundy is NOT going to coddle you and tell you that you are a great pet parent if you suck. I prefer the no nonsense style of Dr. Roundy, but I can see that others might be turned off by the direct nature that he instills. In short, Dr. Joe Roundy is NOT for every pet parent, but he is an amazing vet and I will continue to take my furries to be seen by him.

My Experience With Tooele Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Joe Roundy…read more I am sharing this because I believe pet owners have a right to know about my experience with Dr. Joe Roundy at Tooele Veterinary Clinic. One of the two dogs involved was my dog--my family member. My dog underwent the same procedure that another dog underwent within the same week. Both dogs subsequently died when brought to the same emergency vet clinic in salt lake under Dr. Roundys personal supervision. I cannot personally determine the medical cause of either death, but the circumstances surrounding these two deaths deserve a serious, independent investigation. Here is what happened with my dog: Approximately one week after the procedure, my dog had to be seen again and was found to have a blood clot. Approximately one week later, my dog had to be seen again because of what I was told was an allergic reaction to medication prescribed by Dr. Roundy. Another week later, my dog was seen again. He was released that same day. Within approximately 14 hours of being released, my dog died. I am devastated and angry. My dog was not just an animal--he was part of my family. I trusted a veterinarian to care for him, and I believe the circumstances surrounding his treatment and death deserve answers. What makes this even more concerning to me is Dr. Roundy's documented professional history. In 2021, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Dr. Roundy was ordered to pay $78,455 and accept restrictions on prescribing opioids and other controlled substances. Federal investigators reported violations involving the inventory, tracking, storage, and control of controlled substances including oxycodone and morphine. The DEA audit reportedly found violations involving all 18 controlled substances that were audited. The federal government also stated that the matter was resolved through a civil settlement and that Dr. Roundy did not admit liability. (⁠Department of Justice) In 2023, Utah's Division of Professional Licensing placed Dr. Roundy's veterinary license and controlled-substance license on three years of probation with conditions and ordered him to pay a $10,000 fine. (⁠commerce.utah.gov) Utah Veterinary Physicians Licensing Board records also show that Roundy continued to appear before the Board as a probationer, including in 2025 and 2026. (⁠Utah) Given my personal experience, the death of my dog, the death of another dog following the same procedure within the same week, and the documented disciplinary history, I believe the Utah veterinary licensing authorities should take a hard look at whether Dr. Roundy should continue practicing. I believe that if an independent investigation determines that negligence, incompetence, improper medication, or improper veterinary care contributed to these deaths, his license should be permanently revoked. Pet owners put enormous trust in veterinarians. We hand them members of our families because we believe they will do everything possible to protect them. I trusted Dr. Roundy with my dog. My dog died approximately 14 hours after being released from his care. I want answers. I want an independent investigation. And I want other pet owners to know about my experience before they make decisions about who they trust with their animals

I have had two of my dogs treated at this location. They have specialists on staff that can handle…read moreissues that a neighborhood vet is not equipped to treat. When I first started coming here on referral from my regular vet, the owners were not allowed to go inside due to the pandemic. Upon arrival, I had to park in a numbered parking spot out front, call the number on the sign, and someone would come out and take my dog inside to see the vet. The vet would then call me to discuss the appointment findings and the recommended course of action. Once the visit was complete, the tech would bring my dog back out to me. More recently when I've visited, I was able to go inside with my dog and wait in an exam room. However, when the vet examined my dog, the tech would take my dog to another location where I was not present to see what was happening. I prefer to be with my dog during the visit. My latest visit was because my dog had a serious issue, and we ended up having to make the hard decision to put her down. Mountain West performed the procedure in a special bereavement room with a couch. It was nice that they separated me from the busy exam rooms and waiting room of the facility for this painful process. During all of my visits, the staff were friendly and accommodating. A few things I wished were different are that I have always asked but never received a printed copy of the visit summary for my dogs. They are very automated and seem to prefer to not print anything. And it is hit and miss with getting the summary via email also. Also because they are an emergency facility, they post on the walls and doors that there may be a long wait due to possible emergencies coming in. I usually have waited no less and 1 hour and as much as 5 hours during my appointment. There does not seem to be a option for a quicker turn around.
