The captain was super cool and knew a lot about the city (we bothered him with plenty of sight seeing questions). The marina is a little hidden but just got through the construction and you'll find it! The boat we took was not some fancy houseboat but had a porta potty and plenty of shade and comfy new seats. We were able to eat and drink and listen to our Bluetooth speaker. Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen and enjoy the ride!

I had my eye on these tours for a long time, and finally we were lucky enough to be in town for the…read more"Voices of Carrie Furnaces" guided tour of the Homestead Iron Works, which I believe only happens one day each month during the warm half of the year. This is absolutely a treat for anyone with roots here or a fascination with industry and manufacturing. The highlights: Most tours are guided by former steelworkers and people with a first-hand involvement in the steel industry. You get a great overview of the plant, which was the center of life for this community and the lifeblood of the region for more than a century. Our tour placed a heavy emphasis on the engineering and technology of steelmaking, so if that's your thing, it's Christmas. And it's a minor miracle that these two blast furnaces have been preserved. I would suggest that they augment the tours with photos or videos that might help bring these hulking structures to life a bit more, and maybe insert some specific stories about immigrants and working families, union battles, and other colorful bits about Homestead. Sure, a windfall of donor support and a visitor center would go a long way to improving things on that score, but a little shift in emphasis could be done on a budget. Either way, Rivers of Steel is hugely important for preserving the region's steel heritage, and their efforts to extend that support to the community are vital.

The service was friendly and atmosphere was inviting, both at the dinner table and on the top deck with the views and a nice breeze. Highly recommend this Captain's dinner tour.

We decided to do a Fri. night dinner and dance cruise as part of a birthday getaway. Unfortunately,…read morethe Clipper has seen better days. The ship is in desperate need of an upgrade as it looks extremely dated, and worn. The buffet was also disappointing. It honestly feels like the same buffet that was being served more than 20 years ago. For the price, I expected more. I remember taking these cruises years ago when they were fun, exciting, and something you really looked forward to. But now, as someone 50+, I realize the experience no longer seems geared toward my age group. The crowd was much younger, and the music was heavily geared toward that audience as well. A better mix of old-school R&B, classic dance music, and newer selections would have made the evening much more enjoyable. There's definitely still potential because dinner and dance cruise concept is still a great one. However, the Clipper could really benefit from updating the ship, improving the buffet and music.

Well, the website said that their kitchen was open when we got there the bartender let us know that it was in fact not open and that it was only beverage service. That was a slight disappointment to us as we probably would've hung out later if we could've been able to get food. I did a flight and tried the honey, the apple, the kilted barrel cast, and the Wapsie. Overall, I thought they were all pretty decent. The kilted definitely has a lot of peak and drinks very closely to a scotch. The honey one for me was my favorite and I ended up buying a bottle to bring home. My husband got an old-fashioned made with the Wapsie. He enjoyed it but liked it even more after the ice melted a bit. We were a little surprised that they close so early on a Monday but they close even earlier on Sundays so highly recommend that you pay attention to the operating hours if you're planning to visit.

Such a fun tourist attraction to visit in Pittsburgh…read more Paid Parking can be found across the street and a 2 hour minimum was required. They have stairs you can walk up so you don't need to cross the busy road. You will need cash to ride the incline. They do have an ATM on site if needed. For two adults it was $2.50 each or 5 round trip. It cost us $10 in total. The ride offers incredible views of the city and brings you to the top with a stunning look out. I have a slight fear of heights and it wasn't too bad. I found the descent down to be easier. It really is a great fun attraction you can enjoy for a low cost. The upper area also has a gift shop and historical information. Absolutely worth the visit for the views.

Somehow or another I didn't realize you could walk across all to most of the bridges in Pittsburgh. As soon as I found that out, it changed the game. We walked from our downtown hotel, across a bridge to the incline, up the incline, more walking/eating up top, back across to Point State Park before heading back to the hotel. We did this on the day of the concert so it was the perfect way to fill the daytime. Overall, the incline is fun. It's a relic of the past and I think a great asset to the city. At the bottom, there's next to nothing(missed opportunity I think). At the top, you have views, various restaurants, and historical markers. There was a trail of some kind we were on. It had a few historical markers on it and appeared to go on forever. We didn't have time that day to explore a ton but we did check out a portion. I didn't realize the French claimed Pittsburgh for years at one point. They fought off the British, Native Americans and anyone that came along for 5-6 years. The worst thing about it is needing cash to travel but it is a cheap trip. 2.50 each way. That's a steal compared to making it up that hill some other way. If you're in Pittsburgh, I think this goes on the must-list. You should at least check it out once.
