Was walking through San Diego downtown and found this park . Nothing much from a park perspective , but is a good area to walk around . Lots of people sitting in benches etc , and many homeless people here . It was a bit sad to see them ! Tried helping a few . It's actually good to have a park within the city to breathe some fresh air . On a hot day it becomes difficult though. Not much shade around . Average experience overall. 3 stars read more

Ruocco Park stretches along the harbor between Seaport Village and the USS Midway on less than four acres of land. I enjoy the harbor and downtown city views from here, as well as watching boats and ships. Most off all, I like walking among the sculptures -- the Park is a delightful setting for a public sculpture garden. I've never found the Park to be crowded, even in the summer, which adds to my enjoyment. Oh ... there are a handful of picnic tables and leashed dogs are allowed. read more

Nice peaceful park between the USS Midway and Seaport Village. Although I would not make a special trip here as a visitor, it was nice to walk along the harbor and see the unique outdoor modern tree themed sculptures overlooking the bay. "Fish Tree" by Ben Pingot and Toby Flores cast the most interesting shadows. "Orange Tree" by Guy and Ellen Mayenobe was a simple interpretation of letters upside down and right side up spelling out "TREE" at the right angle. Small park area that's good to get in some exercise, some sun, or just passing by while walking the Embarcadero area. Nice lawn here used for events or small festivals as the one so attended with a 5K race I participated in during a biz trip. Some benches and art structures to see. It's a well kept area but not a destination spot. read more

Ruocco Park - Parks Near Me - San Diego, California

I visited a few times on my recent trip to San Diego, and thought it was a nice little spot. Not a big play park, so don't expect to bring the kiddos along for a playground. And in a town with that park (you know, THAT big park) everything else is sort of dwarfed in comparison. But for what it is-- a big patch of green right on the water near the walking trail, it's nice! It abuts Seaport Village, and from the signage it looks like they use it for big public events sometimes as well. On my visits, the grassy areas were all cordoned off with yellow caution tape and it was inaccessible. There are all kinds of sidewalks and walking trails through the grassy areas that make a patchwork of footpaths. A few trees, a big walking path that takes you all the away around Seaport Village, or all the way to the airport the other direction, you're bound to see bikes, joggers, walkers, and a whole host of other foot traffic. read more

This is my favorite park in San Diego after Balboa Park. It's not large but has all the amenities and unique features like next to the USS Midway museum. It's next to the boardwalk with cool vendors. It has toilet facilities and it's well maintained. There's plenty of benches, water fountains and even interesting sculptures. Highly recommended. read more

This is cool little park right outside the Head Quarters and Seaport Village and adjacent to the harbor. It offers a great leveled grass area for picnics, frisbee, naps under the trees, reading, etc. The park offers plenty of well maintained benches, public clean restrooms, and maturing shade trees. They have Dogi Pots for dog walkers and the said dogs must be kept on leashes. There is a concrete center where the surrounding sidewalks meet up but I am not sure if they allow rollerblading and such. I was surprised to see maintenance workers cleaning the restrooms and dumping out the trash on a Sunday morning. I am not complaining, but I was impressed by that. Keeping this park in great condition is certainly a mission of the city of San Diego because the grass was pristine. A nice park to cool down after a long run or ride. read more

Ok, this park is super cool, beautiful and great. I have been teaching Tai Ji classes here at 7:30am for a year and only had 3 less than 100% consentual encounters! A man decided to tell me his life story before he would get to the point and had to indirectly ask him to "bugger off." A woman claiming she was a trained Navy Seal and Marine asked if she could perform her awesome throw. I let her grab my wrists but she failed to perform so she asked her much larger friend to try it. We sparred for a bit before I let him kick me in the shin and I asked to end it. My dear student had her bike stolen, twice. So I guess 4 times. This place is very safe at most times, especially during the day. The harbor and Seaport Village really makes this a great park. read more

Such a pretty park! The start of our race was here and there was ample room for all the participants. Lots of grassy areas, but very limited shade. There is a bathroom and modern looking trash cans along the sidewalks. I like how there's access to the embarcadero and the harbor. Such a beautiful walk/run! The parking situation sucks as we had to walk about half a mile for our car due to construction in the area. read more

The park to go when it's a holiday, weekend and the parking meters are available. Apricot loves walking I mean running and rolling in the grass. Although I see several homeless people in this park, I am sure their appreciation of it's open but friendly space is not a coincidence. And I guess it's also because there is a washroom nearby. Sometimes there is art which is what I found on my last visit. It's next to Seaport village but I appreciate it more as an open space to run around with Apricot when the tourists are not in abundance. Otherwise, I have to go to other places when this is packed. read more

I come to this park when I want to enjoy the waterfront with my dog. She gets to run around and I just relax on the grass and enjoy the San Diego skyline! Benches are throughout the 3.3 acre park with a few picnic tables and public restrooms. I am checking out different areas in my new neighborhood and today it was this park on the bay. It was nice and clean with bathrooms and several benches, not shaded, to sit on. I didn't see a lot of homeless laying around and plenty of people walking and jogging along the bayside. I think I will make this a regular part of my weekly routine especially with Seaport Village and a fish market nearby. read more

Went for a walk down by the harbor the other night with my dogs. Came across this park and thought it was adorable. I liked that they had doggie poop bags and the restrooms were relatively clean being it was a public one. The park is well lit at night and plenty of benches to watch the beautiful harbor. read more

I'm really glad we had a chance to do our Chief Petty Officer Pinning Ceremony for USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) here! The location was perfect right next to Seaport Village, Tuna Harbor and the Midway Museum. Parking was great for the Sailors and all who attended with metered parking close by and parking at Building 1 of the CNRSW complex. San Diego Port Authority was a breeze to work with to reserve the park for our special occasion. Quick shout out to Sofia and her team to get all the paperwork squared away and to make this a great venue for our ceremony. A few fun facts: The benches have installed "dividers". I thought it was interesting, but Sofia told me that they had to do something about the homeless sleeping on them. It's sad, but I understand what they had to do. I had a lady(looked like she was homeless) ask for money from me several times the day before during our rehearsal and asked for a blanket. I do wish I had an extra blanket for her. Be prepared to deal with the homeless while you come check out this beautiful park! read more

I guess this is sort of a park, but not really. It's really a slightly-smaller-than-one-block grassy area with some seats and a few nice sculptures right outside of Seaport. If you happen to be around here I'd imagine it's a nice place to hang out but I wouldn't exactly go out of my way to visit. read more

STAY CLASSY SAN DIEGO When looking for the #1 park within walking distance of the USS Midway Museum, make sure you don't have to take a #2. TL;DR Waited on a bathroom for two guys to get done having relations, left full of $hit. While waiting for my harbor tour I felt the urge to go, so remembering I had passed a bathroom in the park, I went back knowing there was just enough time to get there and back. I walked up to the men's side of the public bathroom and saw someone in the far stall with the door shut. Walking in further showed me the door was missing on the nearest stall. The lady cleaning the women's side said "he's been in there a while" then yelled at him "hey I need to clean the bathroom can you hurry up?" The occupant replied "I just got in here I'm about to $hit!" Knowing she was trying to hurry him along so I could use it I smiled and she went on with her cleaning. About five minutes go by and I know I will only have a few moments to make it back to the ship before departure. I heard rustling of a belt and the door opening on the stall I was delighted, finally I can get on with it and go about my business. A man comes out, tucking in his shirt and has a suspicious like on his face as he walked over to the bench about 20 feet away. At this point the stall door was shut so I looked under and saw another set of shoes. It was a quick walk back to the boat, I wasn't going to take the risk of whatever was left of the stall once those two were done with it. read more

The newest park in the marina area of San Diego, Ruocco is a welcome addition. It's nice to stroll through on the way to Seaport or the embarcadero but I wouldn't necessarily hang out here. They do have restrooms and water fountains for dogs and people. read more

This beautiful park. Its name Ruocco, but I call People's Park. Remind me very much of glorious People's Park in home Stalingrad. Many times waiting in toilet paper line we would watch the little comrades play on open cement spaces with rocks. read more
