If you see a very very very large fish (not a fish) in a harbour, don't be alarmed, it's just a…read morePort Whale. But this club is nowhere near the sea, it's more in between hills and valleys, so it's named, obviously, Port Vale. Robbie Williams is a huge fan of this team formed way back in 1876. There are 2 legit league teams in Stoke-On-Trent. The evil Stoke City (grr) and the adorable little cute sexy Port Vale who are too lovable for their own good. First-Hand Experience: Well since Robbie loves them, I had to love them too. Actually, I loved them long before I knew who he was... I'm not sure why. Just an affinity maybe. I think it was their name and the fact that the evil, burly Stoke team were their louder and angrier and bullyish local rivals. Anyway, I've been to their home stadium maybe 10 times? Or more. And I've seen them play live there once. So that's my first hand experience. It was a brilliant experience, and while it's only a 4-star stadium that needs renovation (and that's being generous), the club itself as an entity scores 5. Glorious old team that deserve all the success they get, and I wish them well every time they play. They play in white to 19k people, with a little yellow on their kit. The sad thing is they have never been in the top flight of football, ever, but hopefully that will change one day. He insisted that Port Vale be included on the FIFA 2000 video game and in return gave the game an original song... lol. They've never won anything, but maybe one day that will change.

The Britannia Stadium is home to Stoke City Football Club, although now known as the Bet365 Stadium…read morefor sponsorship reasons, or the Stoke Stadium in terms of UEFA competitions (jokes, Stoke will likely never qualify for them anyway). My first visit here was on a cold, wet rainy night in Stoke, as the legend claims, and I came to watch my team, Manchester City beat Stoke 2-0. The stadium has a capacity of just over 30,000 following the expansion in 2017. Outside the stadium, there is a statue of Sir Stanley Matthews, who played for Stoke City for 15 years, his ashes are also buried under the stadium. The stadium seems a little old-fashioned in some regards, especially when considering it was built in 1997, the concourse area does not appear to be wheelchair accessible and the wheelchair seating was basically a free for all. The stewards around the ground seemed friendly enough, although it was annoying that they would constantly block the view throughout the game, through walking in front of the pitch non-stop and refusing to sit down at first. The problem was worsened at the second half due to cameramen standing and setting themselves up all infront of me, making it once again difficult to view the game, especially being on one of the first few rows. The stadium is accessed on a match-day through a shuttle bus from the city centre, near the train station, these are basically the old London buses, the bus was quite uncomfortable and charged at £2 each way. Also due to being on a hill, this stadium can get cold at times and due to overall facilities, especially where stewards did not even know how to scan my ticket into the ground and due to issues with view, I sadly feel the Bet365 Stadium is actually a poor ground for a current Premier League team, even for a Championship team (where it looks like Stoke are heading based on current performance), this ground isn't good enough, so sadly warrants a one-star rating.

Luckily this is not that place, this is a really impressive football club with one of the toughest stadiums to play in for visiting fans because the wind really whips through it like Indiana Jones in a crowd of Nazis. First-Hand Experience: I saw Stoke City play live at the Britannia once, and have seen them at other venues once or twice. The Britannia is very very loud. They were formed way back in 1863 and are one of the oldest teams in the world. The club has had lots of problems with hooligans which causes it to lose 1 star. West Brom, Wolves and Port Vale are the rival teams. They have never won the league or even come close to it. They were FA Cup Runners Up in 2011, and League Cup Winners in 1972, and runners up in 1964. That's their entire history really which is a shame for such an old team. Any club which asks the man that built the Premier League incarnation of the club (Pulis) to leave and then hires mid-table-Mark-Hughes, it just left a sour taste in the mouth and was very disloyal.

My friend Ann found that her hair was falling out, which is why everyone now calls her "Wig Ann"…read more This team is named after her. She's still very athletic though, which is why we call her "Wig Ann, Athletic." First-Hand Experience: Wigan is one of my fave underdog teams. I've seen them play once at the DW and twice away from home around the country. They have always represented themselves well. I last saw them in 2011. Now that they have fallen from grace, I wish them a speedy recovery. Their owner's oft-racist and oft-unwise remarks and tirades are the only reason I give them 4 instead of 5. That, and the fact that they can't fill a stadium. This team, I have mixed feelings about. Roberto Martinez and Paul Jewell really put them on the map, two of my favourite managers. But their owner Dave Whelan, famous for making meat pies, is a bit of a racist and nationalist, and gets on my nerves sometimes. I also respect him in other ways though. They were founded in the 1930s so they're a relatively new team. They play in blue and white and are called the Latics. They were in the Prem for ages, until they randomly, crazily won the FA Cup in 2013, and were relegated the same season. That's the only glory the club has ever had, after being the League Cup runner up in 2006. So well done to them for that, what a fairy tale. The stadium is often empty and the owner is questionable, and for that reason I'll give them a 4 instead of 5.

The Villa store is located on the Trinity side and opens an hour before the stadium opens. Here you will find all your fan gear. Not like the US, everything here is actually affordable. First-Hand Experience: Most recently I saw Villa play (in person) at Anfield in late 2014. Sadly, I saw them beat Liverpool 1-0 in that game. They played very well and Agbonlahor and Benteke terrorized us. The sad thing is that most days, Villa played awfully, but on that particular day, they decided to ruin our season (lol). So be it. I've seen Villa play live 3 or 4 times at their huge, but ageing, home. And maybe 4 or 5 times away (in either Oxford or Liverpool). I've always respected them, but I don't like their kit nor their current level of ambition. And they've always underachieved considering they're the biggest team in the second biggest city in the country. Especially when you consider what the teams in the 3rd (Manchester) and 5th (Liverpool) cities have done. The fans have a bit of a connection to fascism in the past (along with Chelsea and my hometown Oxford among others), and while they're a more interesting team than Birmingham City, I also think sometimes that I like them less. They play in awful maroon and blue kits, and they haven't been good for a long time. They were one of the original football league members in England, having been formed in 1874. They are currently lots of fun under Tim Sherwood, helping them avoid relegation and getting them to the FA Cup Final. They are currently for sale for 200 mil. The Royal Family support this club which is an extra reason to hate them. David Cameron does too. Ew. Also Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Hanks, Al Saunders the NFL coach, and Roger Taylor of Duran Duran. As does Daniel Sturridge of LFC. Villa have spent 103 seasons in the top division, only Everton have been in the top division for more seasons. They have won the Premier League 7 times, four of those were in the 1890s, and one was in 1900, then again in 1910, and then amazingly they came out of nowhere and won it in 1981 which is an amazing achievement. They've won the FA Cup 7 times, including three in the 1800s, but haven't won it since 1957 and are hoping to change that this year. They have also won 5 League Cups, in 61, 75, 77, 1994 and 1996. Very impressive. Most impressive of all is that they are one of the few British clubs who have won the European Cup, which they did, miraculously, in 1982. For all these glories I have to give them a 4 instead of the 3 I want to give them. By the way, when in Birmingham, try a Chicken Madras from Akbars and a Mixed Kebab from Lahore on Ladypool Rd.
