Oldham Athletic are a League One side in the Football League. Hardly as illustrious as Manchester United or Manchester City, Oldham have no dreams of conquering Europe, but rather make their focus remaining in League One year in year out after an inevitable flirt with relegation.
For a day trip or an afternoon out its one of the pleasantest grounds in the north-west. It's a family club with a good local spirit, and they are well-supported in the local community. The ground is a good size, with a capacity of over ten thousand, which is occasionally even full.
I'm not affiliated to Oldham personally. Because my uncle was a Macclesfield town player I'm sold to Macc as my lower-league north-west club, but I cant deny that Oldham is a good day out.

For big football followers, I recommend taking a close look at Captain Sean Gregan, who you may remember from his Preston North End days. I've always felt he was one who could have gone on to a premiership career. He's getting on now and definitely wont make it, but is still worth a look. Rising stars include Dale Stephens, who looks bright despite being loaned out to Rochdale earlier in the season.
