I am mixed about Reuters. On the one hand its a beautiful bar/ restaurant (both internally and externally). The decor is chic, there are places to sit outside, friendly staff, good lighting and a gorgeous conservatory housing additional seating and bar facilities. The toilets are nice also which is always a bonus as a woman.
But the food - well there is not much I can say that is positive about the food. I would go for the drink, the atmosphere and the social environment (the bar is always busy). To cut some slack, I will admit to having had a nice lunch there (fish finger sandwiches) but its not a venue for evening meal, or certainly my experiences have been disappointing and below par.
I have been there twice on work nights out, so Reuters does cater for big groups and offers discounts accordingly (we all paid £13.00 for a three course meal plus a free bottle of wine to share between two). I guess this is a case of 'you get what you pay for' and if £13.00 sounds a bargain for a three course meal - the catch is in the fact its inedible.
My starter I could not see it was so teenie tiny! My main of veggie lasagna I just pushed around the plate. A lot of my friends ordered steak, to their detriment. You had to pay additional fee for this main and again some for a sauce of your choice. A few chose medium to well done, which turned out to be raw. So those who chose it rare, found blood oozing onto their plates - the consequence being vomiting. For those who went out afterwards, they found their stomachs unlined and requiring take out only a few hours later. The desserts I assume to be purchased and already made from wholesalers because I could eat this and enjoy it - berry meringue and the second time mandarin cheesecake. However, despite choosing our starters and mains off a menu prior to booking, the desserts are not given until you have finished eating. Most of the people there were too put off by this point to order any more.
In short, Reuters is perhaps a bar to start an evening off, meet up with the gang and sit and have a chat and a cigarette. Lunch or small 'put me on' type food is what I feel they specialise in more, they certainly struggled to meet expectation with the main evening meals served. This also lets the glamour of the place down making it fall from what feels like an exclusive and exciting place to dine, to being worse than microwaved pub grub. Its because the food lets it down so much that I can only give it two stars. read more
