It has a relaxed family atmosphere and no gangs of kids walking the streets at late night shopping.(unlike in Den Haag) The place is not undercover shopping but there are plenty of places to shelter.

We stopped here as part of a bus tour from Amsterdam. We were rushed through the factory tour, which was interesting, and we were shown briefly how this earthenware is made and the different methods used to decorate it. Delft uses cobalt oxide which, when painted or transferred on, is a dark gray / black color, but when it is baked in the kiln, that's when it turns blue! We were able go through the comprehensive yet not exhausting museum portion of the factory on our own, and it was interesting to see the range and variety of Royal Delft creations. Royal Delft has survived for over 400 years because of their ability to adapt to current trends. The shop is huge and pricey. However, if this is your jam, by all means, have at it. (Going into Delft offers some slightly better deals on Royal Delft & other Delft brands.) Overall, this is a good experience if you are in the area, but for me, it wouldn't necessarily have been something I'd have gone out of my way to see if it wasn't a part of this tour "deal." Tickets are 17.50 Euros. There is a cute cafe called Brasserie 1653 on site and a lovely garden as well. If you are staying in the Delft area, the museum offers different activities such as painting your own figurine which you may find worthwhile. Peace.

The bookshop has a stock of more than 1500 pop-ups and moveable books. In other words, it is pop-up book heaven. Aside from the massive collection - you can spend hours in there, opening and playing with each of the books - the wonderful thing about this store is the owner's obvious love of the craft. He's very eager to show you some of his favorites and the nuances of each of the books. There's a reason why pop-up book authors are called paper engineers and even if you are a pop-up newbie he will help you appreciate the craftmanship of these delicate creations. There is plenty of seating so you can take your time with each book, opening and discovering all the moveable pieces. Some of his books are new. Some are second-hand. But all are in excellent condition and a special treat. He also has an extensive stock of pop-up cards for birthdays, weddings and other occasions - much better than your run-of-the-mill two dimensional greeting card. I highly recommend making the day trip to Dordrecht. Explore the city and pop on in. He has an online shop too but really the collection is best seen first-hand.

The owners are so friendly, and over the course of our conversation, offered multiple solid dining/tourism recommendations that proved to be quite credible. Our tasty beverages were ready just as we were about finished shopping the souvenir selection (cookies, candies, local beverages, housewares, art, accessories, books). Go earlier in the day to maximize your delicious pastry options. I can vouch that their Haagse Hopjes go perfectly with with a cup of coffee, as the baking has softened the coffee caramel in the middle. We strongly considered getting a second slice of their Dutch apple pie after tasting how yummy it was with whipped cream. My one regret is not buying out all the "Granny's Dutch apple pie" giant stroopwafels, with their oozing caramel and chunks of dried apple slices throughout; the coffee-flavored stroopwafels were memorable with the nice hint of bitterness to balance out the flavors, and the chocolate-flavored ones are definitely suitable for people with a sweet tooth.
