This is our go to Mexican food restaurant. This is a family owned business, and you will find the food prepared for you fresh each day. Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, we like that it ifeels like your getting a home made meal You might drive right past it if you are not looking for it. Definitely worth giving them a call and stopping by to pick up your favorite. We love that you can order over the phone and pick up right from the restaurant, my favorite is the tamale dinner, there is an awesome sauce they put over the tamales making them extra delicious . Others in my family love the Chicken tacos, carnitas and don't forget the Carne Asada- so good. My mom says the Chile Rellanos is her favorite. Wife and I decided to stop in and try breakfast. We used to come in when it was Urbanos. Unfortunately we decided to leave after we were seated and ordered coffee. It was 9:30 in the morning and it was so cold inside the place that we could not sit there and enjoy our visit. When I say cold I mean really cold. Read the recent reviews on the poor service and the bad food ratings. However, we have always received great service and the food has been superb. So we had to go and determine if the recent reviews were accurate. All I can say is this - perhaps the reviewers had a bad day. Our service has and continues to be "spot on". We have not been here for awhile (6-8 months) but our server still remembered us and our favorite beverage and even what we generally order. The food still taste authentic. My only "dig" is that the portions have been larger in the past. At least the prices are the same. review update 1/10/20 Nostalgia brought us back here. it has been several years since we ate here. what has changed...a lot. Should have read the reviews before coming back. The health inspection notice on the front door should have cautioned us. However, we figured after it was recently shut down but recently reopened is a good indication that all the problems have been taken care of...right? It also looks like new owners. We did not recognize any staffers from before. When we asked our server, she seemed hesitant to answer our question. hmmm. We ordered our food and decided to read the recent Yelp reviews. Yikes! We picked up our gear and was ready to leave but our food arrived. Well shoot. Let's give it a try. We noticed several distinct differences: 1) the chile verde had no flavor of tomatillos and vinegar but the pork was tender. Tasted like watered down pork stew. We also ordered the dinner entree and what arrived was a lunch portion. WTH!!! 2) #4 combo: portions were definitely reduced from before. The beef and pork tasted the same. the chile rellano and tamale looked like it came from a pre-package variety- blah. The kicker: you can always tell how sanitary a kitchen is by how clean the proprietor maintains the bathrooms. Let's just say, it needed some deep cleaning with gallons of clorox to sanitize this area...gross. Will we come back...not unless the yelp reviews improve. I have been going here since I was 19 years old, that's... 10, 20, 30 plus years ago. Still tastes the same! Perfect salsa and chips. Yummy, home style cooked comfort food and the best customer service. So many places come and go but not Urbano's Stopped by today for lunch after visiting the cemetery to say "hello" to my dad. He and I used to go to Urbano's, or as he called it "The Mexicans" all the time. Staff here treats you like family and it's always a winner. 4-27-2018. A place we found while driving, on a hunt for FOOD. We decided to stop in give them a try. At first we walked out, with frustrations, on this not being a restaurant. Van advised me this WAS a restaurant. Hey, I was wrong (for once) lol Im glad we walked back in. The counter to order food was towards the back. I guess I just got confused with all the Mexican food, spices, deserts and Mexican bread you can buy off the shelves. My first impression, was a mini market. Sitting there sipping on an ice cold corona while waiting for this authentic Mexican food to be delivered to our table. Upon arrival, I anxiously snapped a few photos for my review and dug right into them soft tacos. Boy these were delicious. I had to order more... After devouring my sippi sip and tacos, I walked around the "mini market" and browsed at all the things you can purchase. If Im ever in need to truly Mexican product, I know where to go. However, we did load up on some fresh Mexican bread. Always room in the belly for sweet bread. Okay, try #7 on my quest for best mexican. It was recommended by a co-worker. It is a little off the beaten path next to a Circle K in a very old somewhat run-down building hole in the wall. We were greeted and seated right away. Traditional menu items but prices are a little less than average. Two item combo plate was $10.99 where most sit-down places are $13-15. The chips were crispy and salsa was fresh although most would think it bland. Food came out within 10 mins. The pros was the deep fried Taco and homemade flour tortillas. Both were fantastic. Pork Tamale corn meal was a little too firm but the meat was hearty. Rice and beans were average. Sadly on this Saturday night, only two other tables were taken so I imagine they make just enough $ to survive. They need to advertise somehow but this is your traditional family run business who may not even have an idea they are on Yelp. Service was friendly and appreciative of our business. This restaurant is not nearly as good as it used to be. The place is run down and the outside of the restaurant is dirty. There are a lot of cigarette butts and dirt in the parking lot. The interior is also run down. Meal was just okay and the service was average. The refried beans were dry on both my plate and my wife's plate. I guess when you look at the appearance of the outside of the building and you know that if somebody spent an hour out there hosing down the parking lot and cleaning the windows on the front of the restaurant you might get a better feel for how clean it is on the inside. House of the little strip mall that contains this restaurant is closed down where a video store used to be. I was pretty impressed with this place. The chips and salsa had a bit thicker chips and the salsa was more tomato based with a decent kick that wasn't over top. Found this place with the Entertainment book good for $9 off a dinner. Most dinners run around $11.49. Some super combinations that include several items seems like a great value for $13.99. Chile verde plate served with a good spanish rice and some beans and a side salad was a good portion. The chile verde wasn't traditional in the sense that it wasn't in a tomatillo/verde salsa but it was still very moist and had a good flavor. Carnitas plate served with spanish rice and beans with a side salad and they normally serve along with pico de gallo but they were out so they substituted fresh guacamole, score. I prefer carnitas in large chunks like they serve it here instead of shredded since the shredded tends to dry out quicker and you can also shred up the chunks if that's how you like to eat them while maintaining a moist texture. The star of the meal was the fresh homemade flour tortillas. They were slightly thicker than the average tortilla but as other reviewers have stated, they were bursting with a fresh flavor. Asked for a couple extra just to enjoy more of the deliciousness of the tortillas. A note to a previous reviewer that didn't like anything for whatever reason. The water doesn't taste like bleach. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job taking care of us. 2 meals with chips and salsa and the $9 off coupon, the meal with tax came out to $16.14 + tip. Great deal, good meal. Tortillas were not as fresh and warm as dining. Ask for more in advance. They were very quick and pleasant during pick up, grateful for our tip. Meh. Food is ok, but the service isn't that good and their online ordering (doordash and their website) is jacked. (Why does a guacamole appetizer require a meat selection?) Took a while to even be acknowledged when I went in. The food I got was 50% confusing (why are there quesadilla bits on my nachos?) And 50% wrong (ordered a wet burrito and it wasn't even moderately moist.) Salsa is strange and came in a drink cup. Nothing had much flavor and definitely doesn't distinguish itself from any other blase sudo taqueria in the area.
