It's hard to find a good butcher shop these days because everyone just uses their local grocery…read morestore. Well, I prefer to support a local independent butcher shop, and today, I found an absolute gem. I've been following Skip's Butcher Shop in Fairport, NY for a while now on Instagram, I've had plenty of time lately as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. Anyway, I stopped by this afternoon to finally check this place out. This Butcher Shop is fantastic, I can't wait to go back. Their selections of meats and cooking related items was very impressive, along with their competitive pricing and quality. But the thing that stands out for me, is their service. Everyone there was friendly and polite and really willing to help. You can tell the difference between employees that just have a job, and the people that genuinely want to help customers. Skip's offers lots of different homemade sausages, that's important to me. Their cuts of meat were impressive, everything was slightly larger/thicker and of obvious higher quality than virtually every other shop I've been to. The store is immaculate, every item is organized and clearly labeled making it easy to navigate through so you can find just the right item you want. The other thing that caught my eye is that they also offer enough selection of things like onions, potatoes, breads, buns and rolls that you don't have to make another trip to the grocery store, just to make a meal, everything is very well thought out. I'm including plenty of pictures so you can see for yourself, but the only way to find out, is to visit them yourself and I hope I've inspired you to pay them a visit. Thank you Skip's, I can't wait to come back. Check out my Instagram page (@art_harris61) where I'll be cooking and reviewing the items I bought. Thank you...

I had visited this market a few times in the past when in the neighborhood but is not my usual go to market because of how far it is from me. This market has a real neighborhood feel. You know the one with fresh baked goods and a deli counter, making you fresh salads and sandwiches. This is one of the few markets that still employs butchers. The store is clean and the employees all are very friendly and welcoming. They have embraced all the covid-19 safety precautions. Everyone wearing a mask, gloves, and social distancing. Signs are prevelent explaining the protocols. Their prices are very compatible and they run weekly specials that can result in great savings. Their produce, seafood, and meat are fresh and of high quality. Now back to my roast. The butcher came out and took the time to discuss with me what I was looking for. He then went into the back and freshly cut me a roast just as I had asked for. The roast was perfect on Christmas. Very flavorable, with nice marbling. Everyone raved about it. This market might be a bit out of the way but it is worth the drive. You can tell, the owners, and employees take great pride in their business.

When they have a sale it's usually worth a trip. Some things we got from here were usually pretty good. They also carry all kinds of spices and rubs including stuff from Stuart's Spices as they make a rub for them specifically. They also have some produce and lots of frozen offerings. Every time I go in there I'm always greeted with smiles and the prices are great, but today they went one step further. I wish more businesses were like this one.

Prices are reasonable, and they have a nice selection of meats and poultry. I also grabbed some ham hocks for making split pea and navy bean soup. In fact I bought five of them! One dollar each! Unfortunately the other review (hi sock puppet Alex!) is a little out of date because they no longer serve kebabs here. However, they filled in the wall and sold the kebab business to another Turkish family, it's now named As Evi and is separate, and the Halal people kindly pointed me to go over there and get my food. Which I thought was really lovely of them. After dinner, I went back to the Halal Market and picked up my five different Turkish sodas. In fact I'm going to go and grab one right now because I'm pretty thirsty. One of the best ethnic grocery stores in town, cheap prices, friendly people, great products, and people having sex in the back room. And they don't mind if you walk in on them. They just turn around and say "Halal!" and then they go right back to doing the wild thing - Istanbul style.
