The shopping center is transforming into a more modern shopping center and it looks amazing. The Fresh Market is now it's own free standing location. The BB&T has been remodeled and they are adding a lot of new shops and restaurants. Currently there is a pharmacy, deli, a Thai restaurant, hair salon, nail salon, jeweler and a gift shop. The Thai restaurant is one of my favorites on the south side. I can't wait for the expansion and the addition of new restaurants. Matthews Township Shopping Center sits right along Independence and it's one of those places where…read moreyou come in for one thing and end up noticing how much else is tucked around it. I was here for the all-you-can-eat sushi at Mister Tokyo, which is always the main draw for me, but the frontage road fills in the rest of the picture with Carrabba's, Bonefish, Texas Roadhouse, MOD Pizza, and Metro Diner all lined up in that familiar chain‑restaurant rhythm that keeps the area busy from lunch through dinner. It's the kind of stretch where you can decide what you want after you park because everything is right there in front of you. If you drive toward the back of the property the center shifts into more of a practical everyday mix with bagels, burritos, Home Depot, and Harris Teeter, so it ends up being one of those spots where you can grab a meal and run errands without having to hop back onto the highway. The layout is spread out enough that it doesn't feel cramped even when the parking lots are full, and the different sections of the center each have their own little rhythm. Access is straightforward. You can come in directly from Independence or use Matthews Township Parkway, and that entrance has a traffic light which makes it a lot easier if you need to get back onto Independence heading north. It's not a flashy center, just a big, useful one that covers a lot of ground and does exactly what a place like this is supposed to do. [Review 174 of 2026 - 4562 in North Carolina - 25364 overall]
