I decided to style my hair differently and thought I'd be ok paying a little more to have it done right. The price was like $30 or $40 which is not great, but for an amazing hair cut... okay maybe. The girl cutting my hair was talking to the guy that worked there, the whole time talking about how some guy that got arrested in Vancouver in the new was so hot she wanted to F#$% him and just kept going on and on about how any woman that sees the guy is going to want to F$%^ him. There is joking around, and there is reading the room. I'm very hard to offend, but people being obnoxiously inconsiderate for no reason gets me a little. I don't know if this is some stunt to make their business more edgy or something, but it just makes it seem trashy. The haircut was also very poorly done and nowhere worth the high price. read more

I have been on hunt for a good barber for years and tried so many places , and for a second I thought that I would give this place a chance , and after the showing a guy a picture of the fade .... He said "gotchu" nothing else and just turned me facing the wall and not the mirror and started cutting my hair while chatting with the coworker , at the end he turned me to the mirror and said done and well , now I will wear a hat for the next month , cause there was no fade but just a straight run from bottom to pot of my head , honestly this is the worst place in the world and I wouldn't recommend anyone going there , not professional for sure ... So Royals Barber shop is the real deal. As you walk into the place there is a big sign that says if you don't like yo talk shit or hear shit talked; this is not the place for you. The haircuts and shaves you receive here are second to none. I am now in guthrie ok, and miss my barber intensely. I called this shop an hour and a half before they closed to try and get in for a quick mans haircut, the girl on the phone was very short with me, she made me feel rushed, and that she didn't have time to help me, let alone take care of me. She was extremely rushed in explaining to me her rules of not taking someone no later then 6:30-6:35 I quote, when their site online clearly stated they closed at 8pm oN this specific night. A word of advice, learn some customer service, secondly when you are on the phone with a potential new client, learn some customer service, make the person feel like taking care of them is your first priority, don't make customers feel like they are an inconvenience and a burden to you. read more

This shop has a ton of character and gives cuts that are spot on! Rick has great vision and really cares about his clients. He takes his craft seriously. PSA ON ROYALS BARBERSHOP IN VANCOUVER I am currently a licensed barber, and in practice for multiple year. I've been shopping around to find the right place for me to get my haircut. Yesterday I was desperate and stopped by this tiny place a little hole in the wall, The woman was very nice but to be blunt, I was butchered. So today I went to Royals barbershop to get it fixed. I've heard awesome things about them, and their whole "we say what we want If you're sensitive don't come in" policy, where everyone can talk shit back and forth like an old school barbershop. When I came in no one even said hello, and as a barber I didn't like that. I had to aggressively get someone's attention to know if I even needed to sign in. I was just told to sit down. When it was my turn I was barked at by a young lady, with a chair COVERED in hair and neck strips everywhere which is a massive violation of state board. I also watched her drop two dusting brushes and not sanitize them at all, and use them on her tools. Keep in mind that's just gross and I don't want to know how she kept her shears. I sat there for multiple cuts and not once did they sweep, dispose of neck strips, or use a drop of sanitizer. Her strait razor was sitting on an open towel not in a quats tube or covered. Her combs were out as well, which is illegal, and she used the same comb for everyone. I saw her dust off her guards with the dusters that were on the floor, but nothing was sanitized. The chair was covered in hair and I counted 6 neck strips on the ground. All of this is massive violations of state board law. During the haircut it was brought up that I'm also a barber. Upon informing them where I worked, I then had to sit there for 20 minutes while both barbers shit on where I worked, compare us to a great clips, and repeatedly keep calling it McDonald's haircuts. Upon all this, they also degraded the barbers there stating none of them were talented and tons of guys come into their shop to get their hair fixed. It is a VERY big difference to have a no holds bar environment, another to have a client in your chair and literally shit on their job. I was then finally turned toward the mirror for the FIRST time and given about three seconds to see the front part of my cut then kicked out of the chair (no one was waiting). The barbers at Royals Barbershop seem to be arrogant barbers that preach the usual "no one has talent but us", whilst a real barber such as I am and MANY of my friends in that career line would agree that places such as Cams cuts and Royals had great barbers, and also that despite the reputation of places like sports clips, there can be great barbers at any company. It seems as though they've taken their "we don't take bullshit so get out" policy as a "we think that we are the best barbers in the whole universe so if you don't like a butchered haircut we give you we don't give a shit". This is not an old school barbershop. This is a few barbers that have fed off each other's egos so desperately they don't even realize their flaws. It makes sense they have no bad reviews because they probably don't let anyone who doesn't boost their ego in the shop. Especially given when I went home and looked at my cut many hairs were missed AGAIN on my part, the top wasn't blended evenly, and the crown on my head had a hard blending line. She didn't think out my hair like I directly asked, and her trimmers scraped the living daylights out of my neck that gave me hives. So here's my review on this barber shop, when I first came in I was a bit shocked at the trash talk between Rick (the owner) and his other barber Juan, I wasn't certain if this would be the place for me. I did give another try but have found that these two guys actually really well with each other and and it's actually them joking with with each other. Now I come from a corporate world of working, this talking these two guys do there is no way I would get away with it in my job. I have read the negative comments on here and google but I have to tell you these two guys know what they are doing. Recently Rick was written up in the Vancouver Washington news paper and in the article it does state that "this is a barber shop and there will be real talk". Rick recently out a sign up on the front door that No topic is off limits. Being a gay male I was a bit worried about this but I really have no issues and will continue going in there to get my hair cut and my beard trimmed. read more

I have been wanting to get my head shaved for years and the national chains won't touch the job. Rick and his coworker (missed his name) were very friendly and quite comical gentleman. My head was sensitive from never having a razor dragged across it; but he took his time. This is not an easy job as it takes patience and a steady hand. Five people came in one after the other and watched my head get a shine. It's not a fancy salon or upscale, so don't go thinking it's a day spa. It's a barbershop and they do a nice job. Every shape, size, and color person was in there smiling. The price was very reasonable and I will be a customer from here on out. We stopped in while in town since I was looking for an old school shop to get the BF a classic cut. Exactly what we were looking for. They stayed pretty busy which told me they were consistent with their styling. The kid, because he looked super young and at least way younger than us, who cut the mans hair did an excellent job. Used scissors for the whole cut which turned out really nice. I used to live in Vancouver and still have all my friends there so I would definitely recommend Royals to any of them. Finally stopped in here after getting butchered at a chain shop where the "stylist" ignored what I said I wanted and essentially have me *his* hair. Royals results? HIGHLY recommended! Juan and Rick set up a nice little shop here. Where else can you get a beer while you get trimmed? Also (oddly enough) a good sign for me when the barber sits you down, looks at the back of your head and goes "Bro, it's pretty jacked up back here." Juan did me solid, and for $15. Juan and Rick are great! I stopped in after work the other day for a long overdue haircut and was heartily greeted and welcomed to the neighborhood. Juan did a fantastic job, taking the time to ask me about my preferences, then went to work. Great haircut, fun and lively discussion, neck shaved and eyebrows cleaned up all for $13! Can't beat that! As I understand it, they're the only barber in town where you can enjoy a beer with your cut for just $2! I wanted to like the shop, as it is not far from me and not expensive. Every guy that went out looked the same by the guy that did me, longer on top and fade. I had asked to use scissors and explained how I wanted it and the guy asked if I didn't just want a fade. I will say the other man cutting hair, a black man, did a careful job to get that guy's hair perfect. So if you are African-American and want sharp hair go to that barber, but if you are white and do not mind looking like everyone else you can try it too. I will look around Portland and pay more I guess. :( read more

Looked for a good barber for weeks, found this place had the best reviews so I decided to come here. Walked in a couple mins after they opened and told the guy (not Rick) I wear my hair curly on top and wanted to take the sides down to a 1 and leave the top the same length, to leave the top alone. After he finishes the sides and back he starts cutting the top of my hair in the back saying hes going to make it more manageable and blend it better. He ends up cutting off nearly 2 inches off the back half of the top of my head. Now I have two different verrry distinct lengths on top. I feel it and he could tell I didnt like it and says something about making it easier to slick back, or wear it like a pomp. Wtf? Thats not at all what I asked for.... I said leave the top the same length. I don't slick my hair back...He said dont worry in a couple weeks itll be the same length you came in with....now I have to pay to have this fixed.. great. Honestly though, just listen to your customers. Because now I have to wait months.. not weeks.. to have my length back, since he took off more than half my damn hair. Would expect this crap from supercuts, not a proper barber. read more

Hit and miss barber shop. I got a fantastic haircut from the owner and a few months later a really rough one that I had to get re-worked elsewhere. Goodish atmosphere, but it can be a bit bro-y. My unfortunate haircut visit the topic of discussion was dipping heavily into the misogynistic edge of the spectrum.
