OK, update to the update! My alternate vet stopped having weekend hours and I had a negative…read moreexperience with one of the vets there. I saw that VCA changed locations (no more death defying parking lot!) so I decided to give them another shot. One of my cats was having trouble breathing due to a possible upper respiratory infection. I called VCA and they had no appointments that day but told me I could bring him in and they would see him when a vet had a break in appointments. Parking was a breeze; there is an attached garage that charges something like $2/hour after the first 15 minutes, but I got a street spot right in front. The new facility is large and sparkling clean. Front desk staff was friendly and on point (another issue I had in the past, so kudos to them for fixing that issue!). After the initial intake, a vet tech came out and talked with me before taking my baby back to await the vet. I went home as they estimated ~2 hours before he could be seen. Right on time, Dr. Funk called and we discussed the issue and treatment. I picked him back up at the end of the day and was very pleasantly surprised that an antibiotic injection, time with oxygen and two turns in the nebulizer was $160! That was a lot of high quality vet care for not a lot of money. The vet followed up the next day via text, which was great. My problems with VCA in the past had been the parking, the front desk staff and the long response time from their vet staff. The "new and improved" VCA seems to have addressed all of these issues, so I am happy to bring my pets back here!

WOW! What a racket. Ok so I take my dog to see Dr. Duggan. I get shots, check up, bloodwork. All…read moregood. Problem is he suggests I get Advantage for ticks and fleas and that is a preventative. My dog needed to kill all existing fleas and eggs. I was able to get him a pill at the dog spa facility at my building at The Flamingo South Beach for $5.00. THEN I call to get a travel certificate. My dog was just there a month ago yet they require the dog goes back for a whole other check-up which of course has a fee. THEN the only appointment I can get was during work hours. I decided to take my chances, bring my pet's proof of last vet visit showing he is in good health ok for travel. Seems like yet another way to get $$$ a bit annoying when a document could easily have been emailed to me.

Dr. Duggan: The "Dr. Do-Little" of Miami Beach…read more I brought a newly adopted kitten here for a preliminary check up and to further investigate the shelter's diagnosis of potential worms. As soon as I arrived, something felt "off". Dr. Duggan examined Iago for MAYBE 3 minutes before claiming that he was "perfectly healthy." I mentioned that the shelter had tested him for worms and my concern seemed to have gone in one ear and out the other because he didn't even address the issue. Instead, he eagerly showed me right to the register where I was charged $80.00 for 3 minutes of his time. Ridiculous. Two days later, Iago had not eaten more than a couple mg of canned food and was extremely lethargic so I called another vet-- Brickell Animal Hospital. They saw me that same day, agreed that Iago needed further testing and gave me medicine and a syringe to nurse him to health. Sure enough, he was positive for worms, has since been treated and is now healthier than ever. It was evident that Dr. Duggan and Bay Road Animal Clinic cared more about my wallet than my animal, as I never head from them again--I never even got the call they promised as a reminder for the next appointment. Unbelievable. Avoid this place if you're looking for a veterinarian that truly cares about your pet's health.

She was a French Bulldog. Sweet, but had terrible skin lesions, sores all over her body, especially around her anus and genitalia which made her aggressive sometimes because she was in pain. She also had terrible seizures, which would last for a minute or so and then continue sporadically throughout the night. The doctor (a young, 30-something man) said it was allergies and sold us a huge amount of specialty food that (shocker) you can only get from him. Of course we were willing to pay. We have 3 kids. This is our dog. The seizures continued. Doc wanted to do an $800 brain scan on the dog. We actually took videos of the seizures and showed them to him to prove her condition. Nope. He WOULD NOT PRESCRIBE her the seizure meds without an $800 brain scan. We cannot afford that. We told him that. Too bad. Months later, she had her final seizure. It lasted for what seemed like forever. Took her across the street to the vet. This was Friday evening. He said "We are closed, but take her across town to a specialty clinic because her kidneys are shutting down". Well we couldn't do that because we don't have a million dollars. So we took her home and did the best we could until morning. Hydrated her, hoping she would recover. Suddenly, blackness, like coffee grounds, came out of her body mixed with blood. I took her back to the vet. He said "She's dying. I told you to take her to the emergency clinic and we are closing for the weekend." I'm panicking. I call an Uber and wrap Maddie in a blanket and stand outside waiting for the car to bring us to someone who can help her. Doctor WHATEVERTHEFUCK comes outside, NOT to check on Maddie, but to polish his BMW SUV with a freaking hand cloth. Doesn't even look me in the eye as I stand there weeping with my dog in a cart waiting for my Uber. Polished up his pretty little car and walks right back inside. No eye contact. We are in the Uber. Maddie seems sick but I'm holding and rocking her and crying and I think it might be ok. Holding her on her back like a baby, swaddled in a blanket. 6 minutes into a 30 minute drive she starts gasping. My cat died in my arms once. I know what's coming. I hold her tightly and talk softly to her as she gasps her last breaths. Her body jerks spastically and then shudders to a halt. I tell the Uber driver to turn around and take us home. He does so and when we get to our building, the driver gets out and tells the valet that my dog just died. He understands. They are both visibly upset. I leave a big tip for the driver who had to deal with this and I carry Maddie out of the car, wrapped in a blanket, and sit on the front steps of our building, in a state of minor shock. Her body relaxes and releases a torrent of bloody urine on the steps of our home. I'm weeping. All because this "vet" who is supposed to care about animals would not give my dog seizure medication, even with video evidence of the seizures, without an $800 brain scan. This was 5 days before Christmas. We have 3 kids. Our family dog died at Christmas so that this guy can go out and polish his BMW while watching her suffer. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.
