Whilst you fill up your water bottles you can also fill up your sweet tooth this place is for you. It's ran by a couple and then some who like to bring their Hawaiian inspired business to San Jose without the flight to Hawaii. The service is a fun experience for me because the owners are always nice and don't make me feel uncomfortable or anxious about anything that I want to buy and they make my experience so fluid that it's easy to get in and get out. The ambiance is wild whilst being able to see people who are cheerful and they're not just polite to new customers but also to their regulars. So if you're looking for something special for dessert or some water places to fill your bottles up come through and pick up some snow cones while you wait for your water gallon bottles. And among its…read more"Hawaiian shave ice" competitors in the area, Aloha wins hands down for authenticity (source: me, a kama`aina transplant to the Bay). The flavor options here are comparable to what you'd find back home, the sweetness of the syrup is just right and not too saccharine, the ice texture isn't too rough (which is where a lot of places go wrong), and best of all, the no-frills vibe of the store combined with the old-school letterboard-style menu behind the counter carry all the trappings of the classic, legit Hawaiian shave ice shop! A rare find outside of the islands indeed. And of course, we grab my ohana's filtered water here 3 jugs at a time, since San Jose's water is hard AF. The prices are affordable all around. I haven't tried the coffee here, but I have tried the halo halo (owners are Filipino) and it definitely hits the spot without having to drive to east side or Milpitas. Finally, if you need any Hawaiian-themed knick knacks to gift or for yourself, they carry quite a few random items like lunch bag totes, silk and kukui nut lei, and swap meet-quality Aloha shirts. Mahalo nui!

With my daughter's love for popcorn chicken, there was no other option wife her when it came to lunch. I placed an order for the Popcorn Chicken RiceBox Combo w/ Red Guava Aiyu Jelly Drink. This meal conveniently comes with the food and drink as a whole so it doesn't get any simpler than that. Our drink was requested to be 50% sweet and it was still too sweet for our tastebuds. Plan accordingly. The food was delicious- chicken bites were good in size and cook perfectly. Overall, it was filling and well enjoyed. 5 stars. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and I know my daughter wouldn't fight the idea either!

We ordered on a kiosk and our order took about 10 minutes. Multiple clean tables to dine at the shop or in the food court itself. Food came out hot and crispy. However, the flavor was just okayyyy compared to other locations. We had marked extra seasoning on our orders but it felt like regular amount of seasoning. It's alright though because if you ask they can give you a side of extra powder. The basil in the fried chicken did not have the fragrance of basil like how other shops have. The mushrooms were lacking flavor so we dipped it in the tea egg's sauce LOL. We both enjoyed the gelatinous texture and agreed that the shrimp omelette was the best item. Overall, good for a quick snack but not the best for flavor compared to other locations.

1187 Redmond Ave San Jose, CA 95120…read more This is strictly a review of the frozen yogurt (fro-yo) at the Sweet Retreat counter inside MJ Market in South San Jose. The other day, I was in the MJ Market and noticed they offered frozen yogurt. The gentleman behind the cash register also ran the Sweet Retreat counter. He explained how he makes the fro-yo, and it would take a few minutes to make a 16-oz batch. Well, those few minutes turned into 15-minutes. That's because there wasn't a backup cashier. Everytime a customer wanted to pay for something, the gentleman had to stop and go help them. Now, I don't know if that hurt the quality of the fro-yo. I ordered a 16-oz fro-yo w/ strawberries added. Price $11.50. The container was overflowing, so it was probably more than 16-oz. How was the fro-yo? It could of used a double dose of strawberries. The strawberry flavor was somewhat mild. Usually flavored fro-yo is completely blended with a tartness. My fro-yo was more like a swirl, with pockets of tart yogurt and swirls of strawberry. It was just okay, but not worth $11.50. Would I return for frozen yogurt here? No thanks

I only tried a single pecan popsicle from this place, so I guess my review will be slightly…read morelimited. I came here on a cold day at the urging of a certain popsicle fanatic. The store is located in a strip mall near lots of taquerias, which to be honest I was more in the mood for (but sadly didn't get to go to). There's a lot of parking but the neighborhood certainly isn't upscale. Inside the store is like an explosion of colorful AI-generated fruits and desserts. It's bright, colorful, not quite eye searing but definitely eye-popping. I don't think I know any other stores that look like this. It's also extremely clean, almost sterile. I was here around 11 AM on a Sunday so maybe I was the first customer, I don't know. But it looked like it had just opened for business even though that's obviously not the case. They have a large selection of desserts here, not just popsicles, but we were here for popsicles so that's what we got. My dining companion got a strawberry milk popsicle and I got the aforementioned pecan popsicle. Judging by the speed at which the strawberry popsicle was consumed, it must have been good. My popsicle was not too sweet but did have a nice pecan-y flavor as well as many chunks of pecan halves. The texture was good, very smooth without any ice crystals. And it was served at the right temperature, not so cold it was impossible to eat, but not so warm it fell off the stick. The single person working here was very nice and quickly served us and gave us our popsicles. They nicely don't even ask for a tip, because the popsicles are already made and in plastic so it's not like you're getting any additional attention or work when eating them. I would say the popsicles are on the biggie side, like the equivalent of 1-2 scoops of ice cream. One is definitely enough, eating 2 would make you look a little gluttonous. I'll definitely return to try more flavors.

The text on the wall looked blurry and felt overwhelming. Thankfully they had a small paper menu on the counter, though it was limited than the display on the walls. The women taking our order was very soft spoken. She also had her mask on and the music was on full blast. She also struggled with English and wasn't able to clearly explain what items were what and what ingredients were inside. But we ended up ordering the strawberry con Fresca and the fried banana split. When she went to ring us up and we were about to tap our card, she walked off to the back. We were so confused and were standing there for about 5 minutes until she came back out and finally took our payment. After receiving our order, I noticed that mines had a lot of coconut shavings, which I am not a fan at all. But with that being said, the fried banana was amazing, and the strawberry ice was delicious. Overall nice experience but I can find a similar place on the East side of San Jose.

I've been to other "Rita's Italian Ice" locations before, but this location has a cool neighborhood feel. It's located in a small plaza at Pruneridge Ave & Winchester Blvd. Lots of off street parking. Their menu offers Italian Ice, Gelato, Frozen Custard, Sundaes, and a variety of drinks. Lots of different flavors to choose from. Two young ladies were behind the counter, and they helped me decide what to get. I ordered a large Frozen Custard with two scoops of strawberry and banana. Hand scooped, in a cup. Price: $7.49. So two scoops of Rita's Frozen Custard costs about the same as two scoops of ice cream at a Baskin Robbins. But it's a different experience. My frozen custard had a thick, rich and dense texture. It wasn't super sweet. The flavor was smooth and delightful. No after taste, and it's not icy. Frozen dessert, of any kind, it a comfort food. It makes you feel good. I really enjoyed my frozen custard. It was a nice snack before the drive home. I will return if I'm in the area again.
