The rooms were small and the bathroom a disgrace. You could not turn around. The hotel was a maze of corridors and lifts was dodgy and you could barely fit 2 people in it. The standard of cleaning was poor. The staff on the other hand were nice, friendly and helpful. The dining room was waiter service but the hours of eating were very limited. The food itself was quite acceptable but portions were small. this was not immediately apparent as the food was served on small plates. From our experience this is hotel to avoid.It was in its a favourable location on the seafront and only a few minutes walk to all of Paignton's amenities.The Hotel entertainment was a low standard. Bingo most nights followed by a live entertainer Because of the design of the hotel we would suggest it is not suitable for the disabled.

Beautiful hotel and grounds I've stayed here twice 1St time staying here my room was gorgeous…read morefancy cream deco matching furniture lovely bed clean hard to remember I was staying in a hotel room second door outside so once closed even quieter maybe just 5 rooms on this corridor but on second stay not so good as I was given a room next to the kitchens and my only window was opposite the kitchen which consistently smelled of food being prepared the staff are young and noisy there radios blasting loud most of the time and at one point I was accused of smoking weed of all things I'm assuming it was one of the kitchen staff guys had a issue with me staying there maybe his wages doesn't stretch enough to stay here who knows as I had no problem before so was a totally different experience this time around which is a shame They also have a leisure centre on the grounds gym swimming pool sauna steam excellent which local residents go

The hosts were very friendly and helpful; they have even laundered my clothes for free (on request, of course). The English breakfast was delicious and nutritious (+3kg of body weight for 1 week). Location is good for Paignton - close to the sea/ocean (1-2 min walking) and to a bus station. Though, it is a bit far (for walking) from the attractions of Torquay, but you can take a bus or drive yourself.

We chose the Old Forge in Totnes because it looked like a quaint old building that had been…read moredeveloped into a comfortable BnB. The man who greeted us when we arrived was civil but was not a friendly character (which you would expect in a quaint BnB). There are 2 x couples that jointly run this place, and based on other reviews I have read it seems one couple has a nice man, and the other has an unfriendly man. As 3 single adults we booked the family suite with 3 separate beds. It was pokey and the ensuite door was more like a cupboard door so the other 2 could hear everything going on in the bathroom! Quite embarrassing really. The decor throughout was old and worn out. We were looking forward to a relaxing sleep in the next day but discovered at 7am that we were right above the kitchen with the sound of dishes crashing onto the benchtop, water running through pipes in the hollow walls in our room, and the strong smell of food cooking. So much for our sleep in! We decided that we could not put up with this for another 2 mornings (we had booked a 3 night stay over the August bank holiday weekend) so I approached the man after breakfast and told him about the noise, lack of ability to relax and sleep in, and that the room was not worth £119 that he was charging. His reply was that there is no such place where total silence exists, that we knew what we were getting when we booked (all we knew was that we would have an ensuite and 3 beds), and that he could not do anything about it. I said we would like to leave but would stay for the 2nd night (to give adequate notice) and have our 3rd night elsewhere. He said that the terms are 48hours notice so we would be liable for the 3rd night regardless, and he was not willing to compromise on this, even though I had made a valid complaint. It became an awful exchange where I felt bad for making the complaint, and was being stung financially for not wanting to put up with poor quality and poor hospitality. So we felt compelled to write this review and warn you all not to go! The Old Forge needs an overhaul in decor and front of house, and if that happens they should replace the unfriendly, 'not interested in good service' man too!

The lovely landlady will feed you up if you are not careful! I was having extra food foisted upon me all the time. She is very chatty too. Initially the grumpy Londener, that I have become in the 10 years in this city was bothered by this; I just wanted to sit, eat and slowly wake up. That's my problem though and I soon came round! I needed an hour between breakfast and leaving the hotel though, I was so full!
