For some reason, all toppings seem to be exactly the same price, so you can spend less time working out the cheapest way of getting your toppings and instead decide what you actually want to eat! Supersize pizza only £7.95, which is a bargain, and unusually for a drunken-fare kind of takeaway place, you can order thin crust and watch them spin the dough themselves! Pizza itself was actually rather good, too, with a generous amount of topping. Not exactly gourmet fare, but a good local takeaway shop (especially for after sloppy nights out!).

They had the one location in Brixton back then, and I was pleased to find they'd expanded to Broadway Market. The menu is pretty limited - I think there's 10 options or so - but look at the specials board before deciding. We only saw it after ordering and were so annoyed! The specials looked delicious. The dough is sourdough and is chewy rather than crispy, toppings are fresh and it's dirt cheap. Pretty good for London. I'd return for sure.

If you are vegan and gluten free don't go to Franco Manca Broadway market. One of the worst food…read moreexperiences I have had in London. Ordered a gluten free vegan pizza for my wife. And a standard pizza for myself. My pizza was soggy but ok, but my wife's was completely uncooked. The vegan cheese was unmelted, the vege was raw, and everything just fell off the uncripsed base. I went to take it back and the girl serving at the front took us down back by the kitchen. Clearly the young curly haired guy managing didn't want complaints observed by others eating there. I said "sorry but this isn't good enough this pizza isn't properly cooked" his answer was "you should have asked for it well-done" (like it's a steak). I picked up a piece and said "would you eat this?" at which point all the toppings fell off. Then he said " now you've ruined it, I can't put it back in the oven now". This seemed to have become a bit of Little Britain/Monty Python moment. I said "enough of this ridiculousness I want my money back. To which he stated "I can't give you a refund, you to apply for a refund by email and it will take 3 days" I stormed out furious and my wife had no pizza. My wife went back to complain also and the guy said that I should have been more respectful if I wanted good service. I have almost infinite patience for people working in service - they work very hard, but this guy had such an entitled attitude I couldn't believe it. All he had to say was "I'm sorry, we'll sort it" and I would have said thank you and probably left a tip. If there is a problem with under cooked pizza then cook it more or make a new one (no arguments). If there is a problem with the vegan toppings sourced and they wont cook properly then do your best to sort it and if they won't cook properly then give a refund. In saying that we have ordered the same pizza from other Franco Manca's regularly without issue, so I must assume that it was this guy being a prize... Really? "you should have asked for it well done" for a pizza order. Who goes into a pizza restaurant and says "I would like my pizza well done please" It's hilarious, only if it wasn't true. If you are vegan and gluten free don't go to Franco Manca Broadway market.

I'll save you details on my first experience with British pizza, some 20 years back, in Manchester…read more Let's just posit that, as a general rule, I wasn't anticipating a good pie in the United Kingdom, period. Franco Manca blew away my terribly low expectations and managed to rank up there with some of the better pizza I've ever enjoyed. A few basics, first. Lovely restaurant, much larger than it appears, good for groups in the back. The streamlined menu and seasonal specials amount to the selection of your average food truck: pizza, salads and sides, with great options for vegans/vegetarians, but you're here for pizza, that's your mission. Naturally, the beer/wine menu is simple as well, I enjoyed the Montepulciano. The crust on these sourdough pies are worthy of big smiles, soft and stretchy, a Neapolitan consistency. And because I could, I did: Described by our server as the "carb monster", I ordered the #3, simply because I really wanted to experience a pizza loaded with stilton cheese, potatoes and lamb sausage. And no, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad, and it completely wiped away a terrible memory, 20 years back, of Manchester.

How ever today was different, the food was good but the staff were so so so loud, in the kitchen they were playing separate music from their phone mixing with the music playing in the over head speakers. The restaurant was empty, I was the only one there with my dad. somehow I still felt very over stimulated as the staff gathered close to our table and were also talking very loud, banging pizza boxes against the counter, being so loud when making coffee and cleaning the coffee grounds from the machine it made a loud banging noise. I found the whole experience unprofessional as I have worked in a restaurant similar to franco manca and I was always instructed to be more quiet when working. I don't usually post reviews of a restaurant but maybe I thought this could help them in the future!

Post-drink, when you're in a hurry, etc. It was busy when we came in; lots of happy faces. I was told that it was similar to a favorite by-the-slice place. While we waited for the pizza, I helped myself to the pitchers of water on the counter. One pitcher had fresh sprigs of mint in it, which was refreshing after so much walking! Before long, I'm brought my slice (handing back my order slip) and head out the door. We're running late! And you know, it was close. On the Margherita, the amount of sauce to crust was superb, the mozzarella was melted nicely, and the amount of basil was balanced. I bought a side of garlic mayo to dip the crust into. I'll be back!
