I've visited The Local by Massary twice now. It's an extension of the Egyptian restaurant Massary…read morein the same plaza and doubles as a café and specialty grocery store. They sell fresh and frozen meats, groceries, candles, perfumes, and more. The café itself is laptop friendly with outlets available, and there's also a prayer room. My only complaint is that the seating is a bit too tight. There are a lot of tables and chairs packed into the space, which makes it difficult to move around comfortably. The drinks have been the highlight for me. The Iced Spanish Latte was my favorite (9/10), followed by the Iced Biscoff Latte (8/10). I also tried the peach sparkling lemonade. It was refreshing, but it tasted more like a fruit punch than a lemonade because the lemonade flavor didn't come through as much (7/10). For pastries, I tried the Dubai cookie and the Dubai croissant. Unfortunately, neither was a favorite. The cookie had more of a cake batter flavor, and the croissant just didn't quite come together for me. I'd give both a 5/10. Overall, I'd come back for the drinks.

The butcher is so clean and the meat quality is evident. It is the ONLY butcher I trust to get any of my meats and chicken. I have tried their steaks, chicken and lamb and loved every single one. The quality is evident in the taste when you try it, but the best part has to be the cleanliness of the meats. I never see a single drop of blood in my meats and I find it so clean and nice. You get what you paid for and the customer service is excellent. We accidentally arrived 5-10 minutes after closing the other day and the team was still willing to accommodate and give us our order, which was so kind from their end. No surprise there as anything by Masrawy is the best, whether it's the food at the restaurant, the Local Cafe and market or the butcher shop. I'm so glad this butcher shop has opened and you'll definitely see me here as a regular customer. They don't compromise on quality!

I was a loyal customer at the old location, but the new location has been a major disappointment…read more This was my second visit to the new restaurant. On Thursday, January 8 around 7:00 p.m., I ordered a 9-piece fried chicken, a chicken sandwich, and a whole rotisserie chicken for takeout. Every single item was overcooked. The fried chicken and sandwich were an extremely dark brown, which strongly suggests either severely overcooked chicken or old, poorly maintained frying oil. The chicken sandwich was so hard it was difficult to bite into and impossible to finish. The rotisserie chicken was also burned, with obvious scorch marks on the skin. What makes this unacceptable is that the restaurant wasn't even busy, and there were no rotisserie chickens available when I arrived. This points to serious kitchen mismanagement--either the heat was far too high or the food was left cooking far longer than it should have been. The quality gap between the old and new locations is shocking. The previous staff clearly knew how to prepare chicken properly. At this new location, it appears there is a complete lack of training, quality control, or experienced kitchen leadership. Burning food at this level should never leave the kitchen. Unless there is a major improvement in training and oversight, I cannot recommend this location and will not be returning.

I was looking forward to making a homemade version of zuppa Toscana (it's cheaper to make it myself than to drive across the border to Buffalo to get myself in a Olive Garden). This recipe called for swapping out the potatoes for turnips. After having a late lunch at Church's Chicken, I looked around the plaza and found Longo's. Perfect! This Longo's is now my favourite one. I was blown away at the variety of tortillas, roti, and chapatti in this store. The florist section may look small, but it's mighty in quality. Everything is incredibly fresh. Staff seems to have taken great pride and care of this section. The hot food and salad bar areas looked wonderful. I loved the variety of items to cater any finicky eater. The beer section has quite the selection of beer, ciders, and more. I also loved the dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian products. I was highly impressed with everything I saw, including Oh, Canada! M&M's candies. Yay! The cashier who helped check me out was exceptionally polite and friendly. I tend to shop at my local Longo's in Markham. The customer service is pretty good there, but it seems mediocre compared to my experience at this Longo's. I love this store. It was one of those finds where I thought that I'd go in, come out, and wouldn't think much of it. This Longo's is a hidden gem in Brampton. I'm glad that I dropped by. (296)
