Five colleagues and I, at the end of an amazing week at a work conference, we're in desperate need…read moreof some food. Getting in a little late to go to London, we turned our attention to something close to the Gatwick airport. After finally sorting our Uber rides, we were off to The Farmhouse. First impressions were of a traditional British pub experience, which was a good start. Our clumsiness of grabbing a table and figuring out whether we needed to go to the bar to order or wait to be served, surely gave us away as "not locals." Our server was friendly and provided us with our menus and took our drinks order. The one shortfall was that the menu had a number of items not available and with an assist from a customer, two of us needed a rethink on their meal. In all, it was 4 Fish & Chips, One Farmhouse Burger, and a Battered Halloumi burger, plus an order of calamari, and 4 tomato and garlic soups. There were zero plates taken off the table that were not empty! I had the Halloumi burger, which had a great, crispy batter topped with some guacamole mayo with a red sauce on the side. Really good. Then we doubled down and hit the dessert menu! Two warm chocolate brownies with salted caramel ice cream and four plum tarts. We asked for some custard on the side because who doesn't like custard?! Save for the debate about whether it was more a pie than a tart, another set of empty plates were the only evidence left. Would definitely recommend The Farmhouse!

We also go the Camembert, olives, and some ciders. This was definitely worth the effort to leave the airport, get an Uber, and then return to the airport. Cute place with good food.

Stumble on this little pub whilst out for a drive, its located down a side road and you can miss it…read moreif you are looking for a pub type building. At a glance it looks like a converted house, but it is a traditional country pub, with original beams and stone flagged floors and sort of retains its oldey worldy charm. I wouldn't list this as a gastro pub, but more a pub that serves food, the food is nice but lacks the standard that we are all coming to expect when dining out, but as I said this is a pub that serves food. It has won awards and recently came fifth in a pub review. What I like about this establishment is that it does look like the old pubs that our parents used to take you to, where you played outside in the garden or sat in the car if wet, sipping on cola and munching on crisps, whilst they where inside having thier drinks, where the garden umbrellas weren't advertising the local brewery but looked like they were sponsored by Walls ice cream, pure nostalgia. The beer selection is mainly local real ales, which is nice, but serve the usual mainstream brands as well, food is as I mentioned, I opted for a chicken and bacon carbonara, which was edible, but they seemed to have replaced the creamy texture with a watery sauce, although the chicken chasseur seemed to keep to its description. They also run a BBQ on Sunday's from May through to September, weather permitting, which I expect is very popular on hot sunny days. The pub is run by a very nice couple who are friendly and chatty as is what you would expect from this type of pub.
