That is probably the best position for a pub because it means all of the workers will pop in here for a drink after a long train journey. When my parent's came over to Melbourne recently and stayed at my Uncle's place, it gave me a great excuse to come up here and have a drink. Mind you my auntie was quite surprised to find out that I knew that there was a pub opposite the railway station, but as my Dad mentioned, I happen to know where all of the pubs are. This was a pretty nice pub, and the cheerful welcome I received when I stepped in through the door goes to show, once again, that country pubs are quite different to their metropolitan counterparts (I never receive a hearty welcome when I walk into the Transit Bar). There is also a beer garden, but I would probably move away from 'beer garden' to describe it more like a backyard, something else that seems to be common with pubs out here.

The flowing river behind the hotel was a most pleasant sound to hear as you are chowing down on your delectable nutrients. Not to mention this place is deemed as one of the most active residents for the paranormal in Australia,which provides a great deal of history and mystery to the building. The staff were fabulous. You could see their smile light up the pathway to the tables as they walked toward you. They greeted you with the utmost uplifting energy and were very respectful. GOOD LORD the food was to die for. We started off with the arancini balls, the crust was so delicate yet crunchy, the filling ever so creamy and full of flavour. The squid was next level. The same reoccurring pattern with the delicate yet crunchyness. The only downside to the food was the chicken parmy and the copious amount of cheese, other then that, the chicken was juicy and tender. The chips were also very flavourful and had a nice texture. It was overall a great experience, definitely will be coming here again.

This place did have a couple of more beers, and was a bit more lively, but then again it was the Christmas holidays were I came through, which is probably why there were a decent amount of people here. Mind you, it is a bit of a hike to get to since it is about 50 km from the centre of Melbourne, but fortunately there is a railway station across the road (though getting off the train simply to have a drink at this pub is probably not the best of ideas). I remember seeing this pub as a kid since my Grandparents used to live out here, but it was years before I managed to get around to actually having a beer here. It has a really nice country feel about it, and the sports bar is pretty much separated from the bistro and dining area. There is a huge garden, but you can also sit out on the veranda and watch the cars all go past. Certainly a place to check out if you are able to get up here.

It is just a platform, but it is what it has around it that makes it a quaint stop on the way to Sunbury or further north. Make sure their is a platform when you get off as some trains are longer than the platform, visit the pub that is close by for an ale and two and soak in the local atmosphere, have a beer with a local and share the love.

It is also quite an old station, which I do quite appreciate, clearly being the style of station that I like. The other thing is that trains do regularly come through here, either terminating, or passing through, which makes it pretty convenient.
