When the legendary "George" became "Yates's" a couple of years back there was uproar amongst the…read morelocals who declared it would always remain "The George", it did, and thus became synonymous with a grotty dive of a bar: a dirty establishment with tacky lights and dancing pole, wholly unsuited to this particular pub-style establishment. The punters were usually coarse under-agers, people often on and/or trading drugs, and generally not the sort you'd take home to meet your mum. The permanently blocked toilets were disgusting with broken cisterns and cubicle doors the place was foul. What's more, you had to pay entry to experience this. I wonder, now it's back to "The George" again, whether this will all change and Crosby villagers will have a pub in the heart of the village that they can frequent and relax in and not feel soiled when they leave.

I must admit, even without reading my fellow yelpers' reviews, I had not heard good things about…read morethe George from a few of my friends who had been there on several occasions in the past. However, I went there with an open mind, as all good reviewers should when reviewing somewhere. Unfortunately, what I had heard before was indeed not untrue. The pub itself is pretty large in size, resulting in it transforming into more of a club of a night-time and when I went (roughly 11pm), it was already pretty full with a large selection of undesirable young men either on the prowl for innocent young women to seduce or innocent young men, such as me, to fight. The clientele cannot really be helped by the pub itself I suppose, but the combination of pretty cheap drinks, late opening hours and a selection of admittedly quite decent dance music being played (I feel dirty saying that) unfortunately attracts the wrong type of crowd, where I'm concerned anyway. If you're into that sort of thing then maybe you should give here a try, but I'm afraid it's just not for me.

From the outside, the Alt Park Hotel isn't a particularly aesthetically pleasing pub. Its signage…read moreis basic and quite dull, and the pub itself and the surrounding steps and railings could do with a good paint job. Basically, it looks like its seen better days. When you go inside, it has the feel of a real 'old man's pub'. This could be partly due to all the old men propping up the bar, who knows. Now this 'old man' feel would probably put off most people but I generally quite like old man pubs. Maybe it's something to do with me wanting to be an old man at heart, or hating all you youngsters out there and liking to complain. Anyway, Alt Park is a place where you can enjoy a quiet pint at fairly decent prices and moan about how Mars Bars used to be 30p and Snickers used to be called Marathon and how things will never be the same again. If you're looking for a lively, buzzing pub full of young people then I'd avoid it but if, like me, you like a quiet pub full of some interesting characters, then maybe give it a try.

My local boozer The…read moreAlt is a good honest pub, cheap beer, cheap pub food, good atmosphere. In the summer it is a great place, a huge beer garden, and large sun deck, both with plenty of seating. There is also a large open area to chill on the grass or children to burn off energy. Great place to chill with friends or start a more adventurous evening. I hear on the grapevine that they no longer show football... this could be a major problem, I am sure it won't last long if true. If you visit frequently faces will become very familiar
