Staying in Catania for 4 days. Went to Ceres for dinner about 2000 tonight (Monday) for a lighter meal of pizza. Thought this was a decent choice, based on reviews and the fact that it has "pizzeria" as part of it's sign and menu heading as well. Hostess was very friendly and efficient, waiter was busy but still accommodating. The problems began when we were not told until he returned for our order, that, supposedly, the pizza oven was off and no pizza or focaccia could be ordered. Strange because people were eating pizza when we arrived. Then the bread was served somewhat stale and minus the oil and balsamic we asked for. Down to 4 stars at this point. We proceeded to order appetizers, which included mussels, of which at least 4 to 5 of which were empty shells and at least 2 were not open at all. The bruschetta was cold as well and was only 2 slices (for 2.5 €). Down to 3 stars now. The final star was lost when me wife returned from the toilet to say that there were empty still water bottles in a room to the right of the doorway with caps that could be put on to appear as though the bottles were fresh and unopened. Can only think that they were refilling the bottles at the tap and reselling them. The final straw was to see people eating pizza when we left at about 2230. 2 stars is where we ended, since the staff was good and the calamari appetizer was quite well executed. Do not recommend Ceres. There are many other affordable places in the area and we would suggest seeking them out instead. Disappointing. read more
