Several of our invited guests were refused entry, and when I offered to pay for the additional attendees on the spot (these guests had not RSVP'd and were not included in the original count), the owners declined the payment and continued to keep people waiting outside--or turned them away entirely. Their explanation was that the venue had reached capacity, but this simply wasn't true. We were informed beforehand that the building's capacity was at least 70 people more than the number in attendance. Even with payment in hand, the staff acted as though the situation was beyond their control, which came across as both unprofessional and unreasonable.... it was strange. After investing over 20K into this event, it was humiliating to have to PLEAD for our guests to be allowed in. The entire situation completely ruined the night. If you're considering booking this venue, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a location that is more accommodating, and capable of handling unexpected situations with professionalism and respect. To top it off....When we left that night, we were told everything was settled and that our balance was fully paid. However, when I followed up a week later to request the return of our $500 deposit, I was suddenly told that we still had an outstanding balance. The inconsistency and lack of transparency were extremely frustrating -- trust me, save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

I was here on a Sunday afternoon for a wedding, and there were not very many people at the train station, which was good, but that might not be true on a Friday or Saturday evening though. The ballroom was absolutely gorgeous, and I'm sure the photos are amazing. But it was soooooo loud inside. I couldn't hear any of the ceremony at all. None of it. And we were in the middle of the room. I think only the first few rows could hear. The food was delicious. The passed hors d'oeuvres were great. Dinner was tasty, so was the cake. I don't know if they made it all, or if it was catered by someone else. The bartenders were quick, and I never had to wait long for a drink. All of the drinks were quite tasty. The balcony was incredible. Too bad there really wasn't much to look at outside. All of this makes it very hard for me to decide how I feel about the Joliet Grand Ballroom. I would have liked to be able to hear the ceremony, and walking through the train station was a little odd, but the space is incredible.

We had our ceremony at the gazebo, which was absolutely beautiful, and our cocktail hour looked stunning. Moving from one space to another throughout the day felt effortless and seamless. They also had golf carts available to transport guests from the parking lot to the ceremony site, which was such a thoughtful touch and made things easier for our guests. One of the biggest things that gave me peace of mind when choosing Monte Bello was knowing that even if it rained, our wedding would still be beautiful. We had a May wedding, so rain was always a very real possibility, but I genuinely never felt overly worried about it. The inside of the venue is gorgeous on its own, and all of the windows still allow you to see the beautiful scenery while bringing in so much natural light. Even more importantly, their backup indoor ceremony space does not feel like a "Plan B." It is beautiful in its own right and still allows for that grand entrance moment I had always envisioned. Knowing I would be happy with either ceremony option took so much weather-related stress out of the planning process. I was also initially nervous about the food because that was such an important part of the guest experience for us. Attending both the food tasting and Raise the Bar event made me feel even more confident in our venue choice. And somehow, the food was even better on our wedding day than it was at the tasting, if you can believe it! We were so happy with everything. Another one of my favorite things about Monte Bello was their network of vendors. They work with so many amazing vendors and provided recommended vendors from the very beginning. Having vendors who already knew the property and were familiar with the venue helped bring our entire wedding together perfectly and made the planning process so much easier. Communication was amazing as well. I honestly didn't have many questions in the beginning, but naturally, as we got closer to the big day, we had more questions and a few last-minute things come up. The team was always incredibly responsive and answered us quickly, which gave us so much peace of mind during those final weeks. Monte Bello gave us the romantic garden wedding we envisioned while also making the logistics of the day feel incredibly easy. First of all, the outside is absolutely stunning- no matter which way you turn there's a prime photo backdrop. Secondly, the built in bridal and groom suites are amazing. The bridal suite is designed for getting ready with a separate area with mirrors and vanity, built in rod for the perfect wedding dress photo. The grooms suite is the perfect man cave, with a poker table, pool and foosball tables and signed jerseys and guitars hung up all around. The venue also renovated in between us signing and the day of our wedding and they made it even better than I could have ever imagined- a lot more neutral walls for photos and a women's bathroom that was jaw dropping when I saw it for the first time. Throughout our planning process, we worked closely with Abbey who was nothing but helpful and amazing. She was so communicative and always answered my hundreds of questions promptly. Food tasting went swimmingly and the Raise the Bar event (cocktail and wine tasting for signature cocktails and add ons) was so fun. Throughout these events, it was so clear how dedicated the entire team is to making sure we have the best wedding possible. The real tell was the day of the wedding. I've heard that most venue coordinators don't do all that much the day of in terms of helping with third party vendors so that was my expectation going in: I didn't have a wedding planner so I had assigned all my bridesmaids tasks just in case anything needed to be done. Let me just say- Abbey and the other venue staff took care of everything. All the vendors (florist, photobooth rental, band) came and set up seamlessly without me needing to think twice about it. Abbey even helped with coordinating the timing for the professional during the ceremony. We and all our guests had a blast, the food and drinks were amazing. We got so many compliments on everything, especially our signature cocktails! If you're looking for a wedding venue, I seriously cannot recommend Monte Bello enough!
