Shenot Farm was founded by the Shenot family in the 1800s. Generations of family members raised…read moreanimals and grew produce. Today, family members grow vegetables such as corn and fruits such as apples. According to the family's website, they use both conventional and organic farming practices. On the farm's website, I also read that throughout the year, Shenot Farm offers events such as hayrides; pick-your-own flowers, apples, and pumpkins; and pumpkin-smashes. In the autumn they sell flowers, pumpkins, cornstalks, Thanksgiving turkeys, and fruit baskets, and in the winter they sell Christmas trees and wreaths. On a Saturday, my husband and I visited this farm's market to browse their foods. We parked our vehicle in their free parking lot. Inside the market, we saw foods such as lettuce, cabbage, green beans, brussels sprouts, beets, plums, sausages, chicken meats, eggs, milk, cheeses, apple ciders, cookies, pies, fudges, popcorns, jams, bread loaves, bagels, seasonings, sauces and dressings, salsas, applesauces, syrups, dessert mixes, granolas, teas, honeys, ice creams, etcetera! We also saw some non-food items such as candles and t-shirts. I selected an orange-colored "cheddar" cauliflower head, apple crisp mix, caramel-apple-pie fudge, and jars of banana butter, strawberry jelly, and apple butter. My husband and I had not previously eaten a few of the unique products, so we felt excited to try them. At the checkout counter, an employee promptly greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, carefully bagged our foods, and thanked us. Each food cost roughly several dollars.

They were bringing pumpkin over in a box from another section of the farm, then placing them on the ground. So there was still a lot of pre-cut pumpkins to choose from. Boy will you be wrong- the place extends well out into the back! We didn't go into the nursery area but the plants were gorgeous. Go into the market store area- it is huge! There's a bakery, a deli, a little lunch spot, groceries, candies, home goods etc. I want to highlight the little wine section with the kindest lady working there. She gave us a tour of the entire place - that's how we found out the place was much more than meets the eye! We sampled several different wines, and purchased several! One of the wines sold there supports a rescue group with every sale. We bought some jams (birthday gifts), honey and hot sauces from the store. Traverse out back, there's the original barn that is a gift shop (3 stories), lots of unique items, a farm petting barn of animals rescued from slaughterhouses, a separate store for those with allergies that they can shop specific allergen friendly food. An ice cream stand, a hard cider ale house and some play areas for the children. We stopped in the arsenal ale house to have a drink and that was delicious too! We were hungry after and were looking for place to eat then we remembered there was a little lunch spot in the store so back in we went! Perfect tied over lunch, great sandwiches, pickles have got to be homemade. Drinks from cooler- super refreshing. Definitely will be back.

They do manage parking and crowds fairly well, but it was an absolute madhouse and wall to wall people. Just not my kind of scene when I want a farm experience. That being said, they are awesome to visit during the less busy times. They have a lot of great produce in the main shop along with things like spices and jarred/canned items. They also have a seasonal shop, garden shop and cider building. So plenty of places to explore and try great new things. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, a great farm to visit and support! Just expect huge crowds if you go in the fall.

The radishes were in a resealable (ziploc like) bag. The mushrooms were in a clam shell container. I didn't have to find storage containers which I appreciate. Firstly, it wasn't too crowded like other surrounding pumpkin patches. The farm is beautiful and has plenty of parking. They have farm animals, a vintage store, hayrides, pumpkin patch, little market, and then a coffee truck, Mars Farmhouse Cafe pop-up, and a brewery pop-up. The outdoor selection of flowers absolutely took my breath away - so vibrant and healthy looking. I was impressed by the variety they offer. They don't just have flowers though - their selection of trees and shrubs is extensive and all looked well-cared for. Inside the market is where the real magic happens. I have now tried their apple, muscadine, blueberry, and cherry ciders (obviously had to!) Each one has the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Also Apple Tea which is a new fave! What really sets this place apart is the staff. Everyone I encountered each visit was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They took time to answer my questions about plant care without making me feel rushed. It feels good supporting a local small business, especially one that puts such care into their products and customer service.
